Hi Someone mentioned that Ercan will be closed for the day when the Turkish Stars come to perform, was it the 20th July? They normally practise the day before the actual performance so does this mean the airport will have to be closed for 2 days? Thanks

Cyprus Today reported there would be disruptions to flights not that the airport would be closed, they also said that they would try to keep disruptions to a minimum.

Hardly a matter of national security, I think the Nicosia fly past is at about 14:00 and the Girne at 17:00, I don't think flights were cancelled or delayed last year when Gecitkale was open and used by the Turkish Stars, a change a flight path may be in order but thats about it.

Please, all of you, stop this ridiculous scaremongering and panicking over nothing. Are you just looking for problems? The Red Stars have displayed here many times before and Ercan has never been closed for 2 days because of it. I guess that Ercan may be closed for half hour either side of the 15 minute show and practice show, for air safety reasons. Do you seriously believe that London Heathrow closes for 2 days every time that the Red Arrows perform at Farnborough? Come on guys, take a reality check!!!!!!

Ozbey this is not scaremongering as you call it, Gecitkale airport is closed and the stars are not able to land there as they normally do therefore they will need to land at Ercan. This was reported in the Cyprus Today a couple of weeks ago. Disruptions to some flights will happen but they said that the disruptions will be kept to a minimum. Ercan will not be closed because of the Stars but there will be some delays to some flights. Anyone flying on that date should be prepared for some delays to their flights.

Last year spent the day on one of the boats, fabulous display in the sky and the view back towards the harbour, throngs of people having a great day out and the scenic mountain backdrop. Relocated to a bay for a cooling dip in the sea and a bite to eat. Watched the sun set then headed back to the harbour as the firework display lit up the night sky. The whole family very contented and Chilled.

Teresa, The scaremongering started with ozankoys saying "someone mentioned that Ercan will be closed for the day". The stupid rumour was then added to by bowman saying "so there may be some truth in this". Why don't people make a personal judgement based on a bit of common sense when they hear such rumours?

So what if it is closed for a day is it so earth shattering get a life,if planes are due in that time they will reschedule. sit back and enjoy. Some people need to gossip about irrelevences, things that in the great scope of things do not really matter. Get a life
