Hi to all in NC. Back here in UK after a drive to NC in 3 days and 2.5 weeks hols at the villa! I did the map reading and Lee did the driving - of course it went well..An amazing journey. And the whole time was FAB. What I wanted to share with you was this week I went to a private health clinic (nothing wrong - my doing!!)and the lady who met me asked about my tan, I said had been to Cyprus, she said where, I proudly said NC. She said where, I said NC, outside Kyrenia, she said, yes a lovely place, my parents were thrown out of there. So I was taken back for a short time. I said, I have a villa there. She said you want to be careful there are more than 80 cases of greeks taking back brit homes and over 100 in process and will get worse for you all, I suggest you see your lawyer to seek advice.I wanted to respond but decided I would go elsewhere and complain about her justification to air her manner whilst in a working environment.Any thoughts on her what I call SERVERE point of view

I am fully aware having been to NC for the last 4 years. I just want to share this experience which was not that pleasant in the UK. Seems its spread widely. Not something I want to encounter frequently.

I'm sorry....now I understand....you were making the point that the problem is now more widely known about in the UK. Hopefully the wider publicity will counter the general ignorance in the UK about the Cyprus problem. I'm convinced that the majority of UK citizens still think that Cyprus is a Greek Island !

Exactly my point cronos. sorry if i wasnt clear. I dont appreciate what I went through but need to know there is some kind of backing in the UK because it seems that its going to be needed and all the brits that have bought as hol homes or living in NC need to stand together in the UK by way of a uniform response which at that point I didnt have and feel very strongly that we should have. any takers.? or is there already that I am unknown to that I can join. I am willing to fight here in the UK.

Lisa, most of the people that make comments on NC are generally not well up on the situation and have very little knowledge about NC. My advice would be to sit them down and just briefly give them a few facts and truths and a little history of 1955 - 1974 and plant that little seed that makes them open their mind a little and you will be amazed that they come back and want to know more.

Turtle, thx, didnt want to bother with her but take your point. Down here in Hinckley, not far from you, it was a surprise to me thats all. I guess dont expect it on your doorstep. Aware for the future. I think there are so many stories but I enjoy my villa and will continue to do so and not be put off. My sister bought just outsdie Paphos and two years later still without electricity and water and a builder who has smashed their windows, stolen property, he is due for prison and their house was never passed to be built so they are now moving from their corrupt laywer in the south to a lawyer in London. I've never had an issue from build to end. Explain that one. Cheers. Do you own in NC.

the boss at my barber shop is a charmimg lady of greek cypriot descent: preferring to keep my ears attached to my head I tend not too say anything about nc, especially when having a razor cut don't want to prejudge and I certainly don't think we should feel guilty it is not our dispute but you may expect these sort of comments from the gang of four mark not included: he ploughs an individual furrow and will tell me my video's connected wrong cypwhine: one day when cyprus is free you will be able to talk with who you like and I can take you there pikey: scumbags, send the foreigners packing, you'll all cop it, I see two men approaching in white coats harry roberts: I'm an ordinary bloke living 47 years in larnaca with not an axe to grind in my whole body Ilovekibrismorethanyoulot but I am very concerned about car park attendants on the job, bah humbug

LG, I read your passionate post, points noted. But seems you are on here to be rude to me. Read my post above about the corrupt south side involving my sister. You might stop your verbal. No building permission as land didnt belong and property destroyed! She has videoed ready for TV documetary along with the 4 other victimised purchasers. I would prefer to be called otherwise but in your eyes seek to call me carpetbagger which I find offensive. You are allowed your personal opinion. Seemingly, you are not enjoying the late life you should be by being on this site.

Lisa Having read your original post how would you feel in this womans position? There is no doubt that there have been some horrible things happened on both sides but none of the wrongs make them the rights of today. Building problems seems to be an issue all over the med given what has happened in Spain, the south and the north of Cyprus. Is it the case that us brits are too trusting or do we leave our brains at the airports?

LG, As a snivel servant you have access to better information regarding the mid 50's through to the mid 70's so you should understand the situation quite well. Also as a snivel servant you are under obligation to keep your personal ideas to yourself. Therefore I do not think that you do work for the Civil Service at all and simply spout your own brand of ideas in the hopes it will put people off living/working in the TRNC. Greeks have no historical claim to this Island so why should they simply own it because they were willing to kill off the resident population?

lg, from a particular viewpoint I see the sense of your arguments but within your frustrated reply there are several things I would like to query firstly carpetbaggers refers to the prime movers in an operation not innocent parties assuming your phrase is true about the two communities not being able to "get on", if a person believes cyprus cannot ever be banged to together again as one state, putting some hapless pensioners out of their home won't restore anyone's loss at all but it is of course quite possible for different people to own the same property: the former gc claimant has an "internationaly recognised" deed paper regarding some scrubland, the family now living there built a house with locally-accepted but disputed ownership rights: whom do you think could actually collect payment by selling their "ownership"? psst- wanna buy a place with "undisputed" ownership? try one of the cyprus builders who mortgaged your flat, no dispute, he still owns the place!

Saying that fingers crossed you may end up getting a knock on your door in the UK in the near future to take your property here from you & maybe just maybe sell it on the "cheap"! |

christ1979 Another new member or alias??? Have you been drinking because i don't understand the grammar of your post? I will try to explain so you can understand. I buy property yes to rent out and to holiday in. I pay my taxes and invest my hard earned money within the TRNC therefore contributing to it's economy. My property in the uk is not in my name so i will be ok thank-you, as for the TRNC i presume the Greeks will knock on my door and ask for my keys as the field belongs to them. I say bring it on.............

This looks like just another attack of the so called "Teachers" and Lecturers" along with the GC "Professor's" who have no students and therefore nothing better to do with their time on a Friday. Go open a fish and chip shop somewhere - its what you lot are good at after all. In fact go open another one in the UK, 90% of them are owned and staffed by people who were thrown out of there ancestral Limassol homes after all - even through they are still only 30 years old. I give up, you were found out before you could murder everyone you had forced into isolation, you lost - get behind it and get on with life.

Lostgeezer Message 28: 'With regard to property titles in the ROC, there are crooks in all parts of the world. In the ROC there is a legal system to gain redress,' You really are lost aren't you. Yep that 'legal system' you talk about of course has benefited 100's if not 1000's of non GC's to get their title deeds (not!). Tell me about the falsification/alteration of TC owned title deeds held by the ROC land registry and how that will be addressed by your so called 'legal system'.

Dear AJ, re 39 We still await the proof of this "falsification/alteration of TC owned title deeds held by the ROC land registry" and again I ask - WHY is this only news, now? - you didn't revert last time, when asked.. Once again.. the RoC must hang their heads in shame re the deeds fiasco - and once again - I'd point you to the UK and Commonwealth Web site - search under Cyprus - there is a warning about buying in Cyprus - it has been there for years ... It's not like folk weren't warned...

Mark I have seen the evidence from two TC families that were displaced from Paphos and there is a group of twenty plus TC former Paphos land owners (growing all the time) that are awaiting legal direction from their legal team. You have to be careful who you employ in the ROC Land Registry office!

AJ Out of interest why are they awaiting legal direction? There already is procedures in place in the south for displaced TC's. This is where the land issue potentially gets even messier. If a TC has been given GC land in the north and subsequently sold it, either totally or in part, would they really have the right to claim back their land in the south?

| Dear ROBnJo re msg 42 >>The process of buying property either in the north or south of the island is similar to that in the UK and most developed countries, yet there are many pitfalls for the unwary, particularly if you are buying off plan.<< http://ukincyprus.fco.gov.uk/en/help-for-british-nationals/living-in-cyprus/buying-property It's been there a LONG time - covering all of Cyprus re msg 43 AJ Thanks for responding - NOW - I appreciate why you couldn't say more..
