The Turtle Project at Alagadi will be doing a nest Excavation and then release the hatchlings to the sea at 6.30pm tonight. This nest is one that was re-located from Acapulco Beach earlier in the year.

Anyone is welcome to join, please meet at the Goat Shed and they will take you together to the right nest.

There is NO charge for this experience, but the project runs on Donations.

All volunteers are self-funded and come every year to monitor these endangered species.

Alagadi is on the road to Esentepe, past Acapulco Hotel and just past the Power St. take the 1st turning into the village, signposted from Acapulco turning.

Hi Teepee, is this the start of the hatchings? My family are coming over for two weeks this weekend and i'm sure they would love to see the turtles hatch. Will you be posting future hatchings on the 44 site or is it best to go to Alagadi beach and see the people there?

Geoff, yes this is just the start of the hatchings, the laying has slowed right down now. You don't have to book to watch the hatchlings being released, just keep an eye on here or follow the turtle project Blog http://www.turtleproject09.blogspot.com/ to find out if there is going to be a hatching and then turn up at the project between 6-6:30pm.

Have fun its a great experience!!

Angela

PS There is no charge, but it is nice to leave a Donation

My donation were the two large framed photographs of Turtles hanging in 'The Hut'. I hope they are still there.

Teepee / Kwikid,

Thanks for this info.

We are over for 2 weeks from the 5th Aug so will check out the forum & the "goat shed" for details.

Is the "goat shed" in the Algadi village ? and has it a turtle motif on the out side ?

Really hope we are not to late for a hatching.

Keep up the great work.

Hi Morty

Yes it is in Alagadi bay and it has a big turtle painted on the side, just follow the signs from the turn off to go along the coast.

Hi All

Yes this is the start of the hatchings now, bookings for watching them lay has now stopped. 158 nests of mixed Green and Loggerhead turtles are now hatching. The BLOG is a good place to start to look for excavation days, they will only know on a daily basis, if you have no NET, then you can call the Turtle Hotline 05338469563 for daily updates. Hatchings will go on until the end of Sept. but this is nature so no guarantees, and not every day.

I will aim to get it on 44 as & when, I will know any time after 10am if you want to call.

Alagadi is on the way to Esentepe signposted off the main rd towards Acapulco Hotel and again down into the village. The Goat Shed still has the green turtle on the side but is now behind a row of 7 white houses. Meet there by 6.30pm to be taken together to the nest site (not the beach as you may be in the wrong place) if you go by taxi sometimes it is on the 2nd beach, a 2 min drive away, but a long walk on the sand, so check b4 your taxi goe

The most recorded nests was 162, the night before they top that and now its up to 165, with still a few more to come. So it looks like all their hard work is paying off. Well done Guys
