called at the hospital on wednesday, saw a doctor and was given a prescription for antibiotics, back there friday and had an ingrowing toenail removed, upon leaving the hospital I was presented with the bill of 400tl, this seemed a bit steep to me so I questioned it but the receptionist just shrugged her shoulders, am I wrong..is this about right?

I've never had a toenail removed, but i go there for check ups. Xrays @ 60TL Consult 50TL Injections 50TL I think 400TL sounds quite a lot...but then i don't know about your procedure. Maybe you should call the doctor that treated you direct or go back and ask for an itemised bill...hope this helps some. DD

Make sure you ask for a fatura...it means they will have to write in full what you have had done and the costs...don't take no for an answer... DD

Debdebs I had a small 10 min op last yr in a diff hospital in Girne- was knocked out for it though - that cost about 400TL. Without any medication or previous visit! Roisin I've only had pregnancy ultrasounds - a normal check-up with one costs 70 TL but thats for 1 month - so I can go back again as many times in that month as I want. A doplar scan - the 3D super one is about 100 TL for a one off scan. I have always found them helpful in Girne Ozel Hastani - but I always ask first about costs for everything!!! T

Hi Treesy..its the first time I have had to use a doctor here and go to hospital so just wondered if the cost was about right. I have read other posts referring to different hospitals and for the treatment they recieved the cost wasn't very much at all.

Hi debdebs, My son was rushed in as an emergency case with a nut allergy, we went to the hosiptal near the law courts. Emergency treatment, injections, IV line and drips, overnight stay and breakfast = 25ytl. I thought it was very good value! C

"Özel" means private, which may explain the difference when you pay in Girne (State) Hospital or in one of the "Özel" hospitals in Girne area.

About 4 years ago I dislocated a shoulder. I had it xrayed at Girne hospital but they said I had to go to Lefkosia to have it fixed. Girne hospital charged me 20tl for the xray. At Lefkosia Hospital I was given a general anaesthetic and came round on a ward. I had to stay in bed for one hour and was then discharged. I was charged nothing by Lefkosia.

The Accident and Emergency department in Girne State Hospital is excellent - you are dealt with quickly (no four hour waits in a crowded waiting room) and xrays and tests etc., are done promptly with quick results. If necessary they will send you on to Lefkosa for further treatment. We visited a friend who had an operation in Girne Hospital recently and how refreshing it was to see cleaners actually cleaning with mops and buckets of disinfectant - no machines that can't get into the corners and leave breeding grounds for infection.

If I am not wrong I think that if it's an emergency and you visit A&E then there are no charges. Knew someone who injured himself while swimming and he was treated free at Girne State Hospital.

I had an accident last month when a rusty nail went in my leg. Went to Girne Hospital. Was seen immediately, treated with tetanus injection and paid 10 tl. Was in and out in 6 minutes. Hats off to the staff there who were friendly and helpful. Long may it continue!

Emergency treatment is free at the State Hospitals. I have also had a back Xray done at Girne State Hospital & this was very cheap. I would never make my first port of call, Girne private hospital. I have generally seen a GP here first & then if necessary I have been referred. My GP has always referred me to Lefkosa for the private sector & I have never received an untoward bill.
