Hello Peeps,

When will we ever learn, 3 DRUNKEN brit ex pats arrested for stripping naked outside JK's & Laisons bar ozankoy and driving around in a jeep, just another drunken mess to follow on to one recently reported at Turquoise bay outside the Kings bar which was even posted on utube.

Why oh why must we continually have these people blacken our countries reputation DISGUSTING !

And damn anyone who even tries to defend them.

They obviously got confused and thought they were on the Greek side of the border where such behaviour is the norm.

These people are a disgrace, they should have been booted off the island straight away, how disrespectful to our hosts during Ramadan. They are probably the same one who when in the UK moan about foreigners !

Anyone can sometimes get a bit out of order and do silly things, but this is totally out of order. This is the stuff of Ayia Napa idiots, please please not in NC.

I apologise for anyone in years past I may have upset with my not so good karaoke but the Angorra made me think I was Celine Dion.

That was very much making light but I most definately object to this kind of behaviour and I agree drum them off the island!

That woolly wine can make people do the strangest things, best leave it alone.

As for the idiots in question, try the South of the island next time, you are not welcome here.

I would say No.1 - I can choose whether to visit a casino or a brothel, but if I am in a bar or passing a bar and someone is outside stripping off, it would not be my choice.

PS I am a female and so the above (re brothel) is hypothetical

The casinos have security guards to deal with bad behaviour, the nightclubs are mostly away from residential areas but as for bars, we could be in any one anywhere and so faced with these cretins, they need to be dealt with severely as an example to the next lot thinking of having a go.

Message 1

Get your facts correct they did not strip naked in JK's they were a bit shall we say in high spirits, the females left in one 4x4 and the guys followed in the other. yes they were a bit loud so much so that we did notice, we were there.

There behavior at JK's was not that bad if it had been I am sure Darren would have done something about it as he was there with us at the time.

playing devils advocate i would say just high jinks but on the other hand I am glad they were not Scottish or Irish or Welsh!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ouch

Wait for the Police report if indeed they were arrested as suggested in Msg1, or done for DD? Seems to be a conflict in correct information here.

msg 30 seems to know a little bit of the TRUTH of what went on. most others as usual are passing sentence before all the facts are known.

The Brits do have a really bad reputation abroad and rightly deserved. If you want to see some real bad behaviour, take a trip down to Kapparis at night and you will see plenty of them keeping up the bad reputation that we have been awarded with.

It is a real shame that these people think that no matter where they go that everyone else is a foreigner and they can do what ever they want. So lets hope the North keeps them out as much as possible.

I blame the fish & chips and Watneys Red Barrel for it.

I am in no way defending them they were shall we say a bit excitable when they left JK's that day but were in no way a Nuisance, we arrived approx 15 mins before they left, I am not the police nor do I run the bar or have a breathaliser. I just stated they were not naked at JK's just a bit loud, if they had stripped believe me i would have protested very loudly!

I never condone drinking and driving as I have seen on TOO many occasions the result of this!!!!!!!!!!

DC sorry of course i ment to say Dutch and French and German

I know this may sound snobbish to a lot of people (I'm ready for any backlash) but I would like to make the point that you never, ever, got this sort of element in TRNC. I appreciate that many years ago it did seem to be populated, in the main, by the 'older generation' (of which I suppose I am one now), but I think I preferred it then. Progress???

I think that this has been blown out of all proportion. Although not the behaviour I condone, I certainly don't think it is as bad as you are all making it. There are far worse things that go on and the numerous BROTHELS and prostitutes that on this island is far worse than a few people that have had a few too many and getting out of hand. Perhaps you have all forgotten what it is like to be young. Take a look at the papers and see what is really going on around the world, it may make you realise that this is not the crime of the century.

Someone once told me Watneys RB was so weak it was like making love in a boat; "you know whatting" close to water !

Seriously though, as a long term expat who has lived in many countries & cultures and soon to move to Famagusta, my view is that such cultural insensitivity is unacceptable regardless of which nationality is involved. Driving around drunk & stripping off would beg the attention of the police anywhere, but to do it outside a mosque in a Muslim country during Ramadan, especially if they were residents as opposed to "high spirited holidaymakers" then I'd say the stupidity alone deserves everything the authorities throw at them.

And funnily enough, once they sober up and realise how much trouble they are now in, they'll probably expect their embassy to help them!

It wasn't a report in the paper it was a column filler from an ex MP.

"Allegedly" was used twice in the column and "rumour" once, there was a distinct lack of FACTS!.

Such behaviour if true should not be tolerated but knowing the local plod if there was any substance to all this the "alleged" perpetrators feet would'nt have touched the floor between Ozankoy and the local police accomodation.

He goes on to refer disparagingly to "the face of modern Britain"

Would that be the modern Britain where MP'S are held in such regard for their moral turpitude?

Having been here longer than most I sometimes despair when I see some of the younger people who have arrived, but it is too easy to generalise about the "yeni" (as the ex MP calls them) Brits, most of them are decent people as I am sure most of the posters on this forum are. By the way, Nursie is right. Daren would have sorted them.

there you go again Steve.

Peaking to early again & getting it wrong. Just like on the " larnaca transfers to Kyrenia" you did not bother replying to my answe to you that you had misread the comments as a go at you. I advise you to read it as it states I do not have a problem with the south. Let me know when you have and the mistake you have made..

I was in Kapparis last May and again soon, been there many times and like it. A couple of British bars mainly full of big heads and bull shi@@erst. I did not say anything about msg 1 and nakedness etc. A lot of ex-pats steer clear of these two bars. Just giving an instance of what goes on. The North thankfully is full of older people that some have " got all the T shirts" and are now mature and have settled down in life!!. (like me)

I have done seasons in Spain, working in clubs and doing prop work etc and I know the mentallity of these people.

So before trying to have a dig.....get it right first.

EH!!!!

playing devils advocate i would say just high jinks but on the other hand I am glad they were not Scottish or Irish or Welsh!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ouch (...)

How do you know they were 'English'. My son was in JK's the other week with his wife - Welsh Connections, My Grandchildren were born and bred in the West of Scotland - Scottish Connections. My sister married a spaniard - spanish connections.

THESE PEOPLE WERE UNCOUTH LOUTS - we would not be happy if drunken layabouts 'acted themselves' outside a Christian Church - whether you are christian or not. They have no respect for anything or anyone. They live with the mentality 'lets get blethered and cause bother' as a mode of enjoying themselves.

Tiggy you need to read what you wrote and i quote Take a trip down to Kapparis and you will see plenty of them keeping up the bad reputation that we have been awarded.

This is strictly not true as i drink in Kapparis not once have i seen any trouble at any bars so before you stir about Kapparis and give it a bad name get your facts right.

Its xxxx like you that cause the problems between the North & the South. You visit Kapparis once or twice a year and think you know it all in fact you now nothing as i said get your facts right and stop saying things about Kapparis that you no nothing about.

message 58 - Liz - probably nothing (for reasons which I won't go into here), but I am sure a lot of readers can guess (and, no, I am not biased - just a fact of life).

This has proven to be a highly emotive subject. Yes - there are at least 2 sides to every story. But also, I feel, the general sense of opinion is that the Brits (be they ex-Pats or holiday-makers) have not proven themselves in a good light over the years. We tend to be insulting to anyone who cannot speak English, and yet how many Brits can speak, at least conversationally, another language? We seem to think that everyone can/should speak English. I am not excluding other European nations here - indeed, I have been incensed over the years at others' behaviour, in restaurants, etc. It seems that the Russians have now taken over from the Germans at bad behaviour abroad. But, please, let's not tar all, of every nation, by the same brush. There are good and bad in every race.

It is not about nationality it is about respecting others.

We have an old saying in Britain - Live and let live. that does not mean 'doing your own thing with a total disregard for others and their values and way of live' I was taught to respect others with different colours, religions, cultures, ways of life and not to judge them on my standards.

I have been to Germany and the Germans are wonderful in their own country, their standards are very high. We drove though London on the way and the mess, litter, rubbish was disgusting. In Hamburg city centre on a Saturday afternoon, we saw no litter. Their customer service is excellent, and if you are able to finish one of their oversized meals - well done. They do expect their own high standards abroad. (they cannot queue - I had to fight for a place on a bus - I suppose the rest makes up for that)

Not so much of the xxx, .....If I was to call you that it would be to your face. you do not know me or nor I you.

I'm saying attitude, rudeness and ignorance. "The Corner Pin" in Kapparris is full of this. You twist words....I wrote....: "I was in Kapparis last May and again soon, been there many times and like it" Protaras ,Aya Napa have the same going on. It happens wherever Brits congregate. next time you are out take off your blind fold!

Oh, and no answer to the mistake you made about me on the "Larnaka to Kyrenia transfers"

Sorry Tiggy had to edit your posting as well.

Newscoop

Sorry again but i really do have to take issue with your mess 55, it WAS a report in the paper, you do tend to get your facts wrong

*page 3 Cyprus today column 5 top of page

Heading MEN STRIPPED

THREE MEN WERE ARRESTED AFTER STRIPPING OFF AND EXPOSING THEMSELVES TO VILLAGERS IN OZANKOY ON A SUNDAY AFTERNOON DURING RAMADAN,

having re-read the article six times there is no mention of the word *ALLEGEDLY* anywhere

The group had been out drinking and started off in JK's in Lapta and later moved to Ozankoy, (with apologies to nurseawful)

Once again a perfectly normal post is degenerating into a slanging match because peeps tend to want to dissect everything, (bar room lawyers springS to mind)

The sad fact is it happened, another *Drunken Brit* was also arrested by Esentepe polis recently for causing trouble in a local hotel.

My point is / was it is getting too common an occurence here now and in such a small place it is totally unacceptable behaviour, IMHO

My apologies to Tiggy for calling him what i did i was very irate what he said about somewhere i know very well. I have read your post over again and what you have said about Kapparis is just not true. As you have mentioned the Corner Pin i will show your post to Fred and Ann as they are my neighbours and i will let them reply to your post or they may leave it with the contempt it deserves. I guess what you are saying is everytiime you go to Kapparis there are Drunken yobs urinating on the streets smashing up the pubs and fighting with the locals because that is how you have painted Kapparis to the members of this forum.

re msg 3

>>They obviously got confused and thought they were on the Greek side of the border where such behaviour is the norm.<<

I can only advise of at least two reasons why this statement is nonsense...

1/ You forget that GCs ( in general) ain't happy about such behaviour, either..and THAT's why the Ayia Napa "naughty" boats go WAY out to sea..

2/ What "border" ? ! ;)

Come on guys..we have all read posts about skinny dipping in the "north"..!!

YES,what the lads did was inappropriate behaviour- they chose the WRONG place... May be they will learn. May be they will end up in gaol for the weekend like the guys from Bristol on a stag "do" who dressed up as scantily clad nuns on Rhodes !?

*I'd* rather some of you were as outraged at some of the other law breaking going on in Cyprus !

Give the offenders a short prison sentence and then deport them back to the UK, that should give a clear message that this type of behaviour will not be tolerated.

Zero tolerance.

What does any of that have to do with the antics of Brits OUTSIDE A MOSQUE, which is what the original post was about.

RE msg 69, 6xm:( (...) 2/ What "border" ? ! ;) (...)

=> Haven't you noticed, my friend? It's where the Cypriot Turkish officers ask you for your identity papers - and they won't let you in when you don't show them. It's what the rest of the world - except you, of course - call "the or a border".

P.S. Hope you are doing fine, Mark. Have you abandoned your umptieth email addresses? Skype tomorrow (Monday)?

rdsteve,

forget the apology as you do not mean it as You then go on to GUESS...." I guess what you are saying is everytiime you go to Kapparis there are Drunken yobs urinating on the streets smashing up the pubs and fighting with the locals because that is how you have painted Kapparis to the members of this forum".

I think Kapparis is a lovely place but like other resorts it has the odd place for "pond life" The locals are friendly and the beaches are ok ,we like "Firemans Beach" I would recommend forum users to visit Kapparis.

Say hello to Fred & Ann, keep your clothes on and your beer down!

I am sorry ,butI think this will upset MMM MMMM.If you think our lager louts are bad, wait till the Russian version arrives. We are absolute novices when it comes to drunken loutish behaviour compared to these people. They do not care who, or what they shove ,push, insult, yell at,pour beer over and fight with. Its mainly the Poles and the Czecks that they make a beline for but if they are not available anyone else will do.I suppose its there years of suppression coming to the top now they are free people, even the Germans run for cover if there are Russians about.Just hope it does not get to TRNC like it has in Egypt and some of the Greek islands and Spain.Sorry if any Russian people read this but that is what is happening, and I have personally witnessed it in Egypt last winter....

when some 1 is in business does it mean they must not make light joke of something?

Britain’s seem to be able to get a bad reputation as visitors or tourists ask our Australian cousins if many of us still have the reputation the Poms had a few years ago.

So on behalf of any louts around I thinks a simple apology is called for.

As someone born and brought up in London:- I apologise for us as a nation & I hope I would never behave in that way and would not like that behaviour where I live either.
