OH my god I never read that, how awful, thank god the parents were on their feet quick to catch the bastard,

In the blink of an eye something could happen, please god they catch him, why didnt a person on the beach grab the bastard until the police arrived, I understand the parents were in shock but someone must have seen him running with a child under his arm.

I think it is disgusting that the parents did not report this incident here, if there is a preditor on the beaches, surely they would want other parents to be aware, and get the guy arrested!! Do I smell a rat!!

I tend to agree.

Doesn't ring true....no way would you NOT report it to the police.

Also, undue emphasis regarding the location..."which is controlled by Turkey".

sounds like: "hey, I want to get into the papers, how do I do this??.. mhhh.."

This "story" can not be true.. even, which beach (in the kyrenia area) is so emty that no one would witness?? You all know how helpfull people are - so if they had shouted for help the would have beaten the sh*t out of this guy before he reaches his car and disappears - also the number plates are so easy to remember - but hey did not...

Bull*hit!!

**************************************************************************

I tell you how it was: They were both drunk (parents) and as the kid was drowning, someone (the kidnapper) rescued the kid, he brings the kid to his parents, as they come nearer, the fathers sight gets clearer and sees them. He attacks the rescuer, which flees, because he doesnot want to get in trouble with a drunk chelsea supporter..

So, whos ringing the papers to tell em the true story??

The story in the Sun mentions the similarity to the Ben Needham mystery. The 21 month old blonde haired Brit, boy who disappeared from the Greek controlled island of Kos, some 18 years years ago.

Not that I'd EVER read the Sun, Richard

Very strange indeed. Someone must have witnessed this and if they had surely some of us would have heard the story through the islands tomtom drums. If they were staying in an hotel why didn't they inform the management who in turn would have called the police.

So they wait till the end of their holidays and then only report it back in the UK!

Question? How did they get back out of the country through immigration without a child with them - the child would have been on their passports and the immigration police would not have let them leave a child behind and go on their own! The only way I can see that happening is if they left through Larnaca and just waltzed through one of the crossing points.

But then what about the airlines? They will have had a seat allocation/boarding pass etc to satisfy everyone before they could fly. They would still have had to pass through checks at departures etc.

Good story but beyond belief really when you start to take it apart. Wonder how they explained it to the hotel staff?

Teatime, I agree with that, but Presley!! Elvis may have sounded a bit over the top but there is always Aaron, I always feel so sorry for some of these youngsters with *odd * names, they will really go through it when they are growing up.

But back to the topic, it sounds a bit far fetched to me, someone would have seen something and reported it.

Sorry, don't believe a word of it. Just more adverse publicity for the TRNC. Wonder how much they were paid to tell that story to the Sun.

If someone had tried to snatch one of my offspring, I would have been straight onto the Police.

Any parent would for certain scream like a banshee and deggo report to police

The article states "The toddler's dad Nicholas gave chase and grabbed Presley back 30 yards down the beach in Cyprus before the kidnapper could reach a car."

So they got there child back, but you would still want to catch up with the snatcher......

"Keeley said the incident triggered thoughts about 21-month-old Ben Needham - who vanished 18 years ago from the Greek isle of Kos -"

Keeley mum is 33, so 18 years ago she would have been 15.......dont sound right to me at all

It's very easy after reading an article to state what you would and wouldn't do, but in that position and at that time in the heat of the moment people do funny things, yes of course you would expect any normal person to give chase and give the guy a bloody good kicking or whatever and call police, but how many times have you done or been involved in something and then after the event thought "if only i'd done so and so"??

I remember the very first time I visited the TRNC it all felt a bit strange to me as someone who had traditionally been to the likes of Spain so how do you know that these weren't just holidaymakers here for the very first time. Yeah sure I know the score now as I'm familiar and more 'street wise' and yeah i'd have got onto the police on my TRNC mobile but have you always had to hand in every country you've visited a a handle on the language, a mobile phone, and the local police phone number, prob' not. Maybe they were just relived to get their child back.

Just read the bit about the 30 yard chase by the father to get his son back - missed that the first time so now can see how they got off the Island after all - doh!

Still think that dad must have been waiting in his starting blocks to have caught the guy after 30 yards, this following the shock of seeing his son snatched as well. It still won't ring true with me, there must have been others on the beach and the local population is so child friendly that I can not believe that the snatcher could get off the beach with all his body parts still attached.

Ok, I understand what you are saying

BUT

this happened on their 1st day of holiday

you are on holiday still for 2 weeks, time to think and talk to people you meet at your hotel etc.....

They MUST have mentioned the incident to someone.....

Why report to UK police and not in the country you are in....if you had something lost or stoelen whilst on holiday , you would have to report to local police, for insurance purposes....

I know my child is a darn sight more valuable to me than any piece of jewllery or cam corder

Tony,

Your are right indeed - another case of speed typing without brain in gear by me I am afraid! Totaly missed the point that they got their son back as well. All in all I made a mess of that comment and apologise for it as well. Still don't think it rings true at all mind you.

I think to completely dismiss this incident ever happened in the TRNC where many of you seem to think no crime exists is a dangerous assumption. Crime is everywhere, UK, Turkey, Greece, ROC and believe it or not even in the TRNC... If, and I’m only saying IF this incident really did happen then it should be a warning to other parents to be more vigilant. Many on this thread seem to have a strong case of paranoia and very quickly assume that all bad things that happen in the TRNC is all down to politics and GC propaganda. I would hate to see you taking back your comments if / when we hear about the next kidnapping. An open mind has never been a bad quality to have! However, having said all that, Yes, you're all right... these parents must be the most stupid on the planet if they felt they didn't need to inform the local police or have a better description of the alleged kidnapper and the get-away car. But there are a lot of scary people out there, unfit to be parents!

if you are going to fabricate a story ,you should really stop and make sure it is going to have

some sort of credibility ,someone comes up to you ,at some beach ,somewhere in girne ,not kyrenia .

in NORTH CYPRUS ,which is controlled by TURKEY ,yeh ok, he would be skinned alive ,remember it,s a very small country

and not many places to hide,

what should happen now is quite clear ,turkish police should now insist on interviewing this family

they have every right too .

I agree totally with message 20. There is no way you would let the matter end there. Somethings not right about this article and like Musin I agree that the authorities should request an interview with these people.

Were there any other people on the beach who could substantiate this story?

Dutchcap,I can remember the spellbinding headline that accompanied one of your stories you did for that crappy rag you used to write for,how did it go?

Oh Yes,

RE msg 30, gooligan: (...) I can remember the spellbinding headline that accompanied one of your stories (...)

=> My dear friend, I don't blame you for not knowing how it works at a news paper. So, for your private information: stories are written by reporters and headlines are made by editors behind a desk. You're addressing the wrong person - but what do you care as long as it is me, right?

I did say the headline accompanied one of your stories, not that you wrote it.

Your problem is that you presume too much, stick to facts that you know to be true and can back up in hard evidence, isn't that what you journalists do?

Of course not,who wants to read the truth?

sad to say there are pedo's in every area of the world but the sun does not seem to check its facts very well

and as many have said seems very strange that nothing was reported for over 2 weeks .

A toddler is around what 2-3 yrs old? so how come he was so far from parentsthat a person could snatch him?

how and why was he not on raines so near the danger of the sea?

I really have problems with parents who let their children out of there sight let alone go out to dinner and leave their kids in an appartment asleep 250 yrs away and not in direct eye sight

Call me old fasioned but if you are lucky enough to be able to have kids there are precious and their welfare should come first.

Or am I really out of touch with how things are @43 yrs old?

so, I got the news for you all: http://www.kibrispostasi.com/index.php/cat/35/news/30011/PageName/KIBRIS

according to the news here the PARENTS of Tod (Presley) never entered TRNC. Presley entered through Metehan on 7th September at 02:00 in the morning, the day he was kidnapped!. On 13th Sept 20:49 he went back to ROC through Metehan. No registration of the parents..

***************************************

But now it comes: if you google the parents they have had news about them quiting smoking... http://www.encyclopedia.com/doc/1G1-173904929.html

***************************************

So, as I said in message 11 - they just wanted to get into the papers..

Poor little lad...

Having followed the Ben Needham case since it happened, I remember that the island was searched thoroughly before they left. TV footages showed this (as in the Madeline case - eventually). Ben has never been found and he will be 18 years old now

I wonder if we could get one of our journalists to contact a collegue at the Sun with a view to speaking to the parents. If this is a GC scam it would make great propoganda for TRNC to expose it.

Kervansaray beach is where the inccident took place, the family were sunbathing behind friends & family of mine & I myself was having coffee at the restaurant area..

The family in question were in genuine shock, but in my opinion it certainaly was'nt an abduction attempt, the chap in question was trying to explain something to the family but niether party could understand eachother..

Then he just wondered off back to his wife/girlfriend who was sunbathing further along the beach & the family went up to the showers got changed & left, I don't think the chap in question even realised what he was being accused of..

The family were genuinly distressed as they rightly should have been, but I think they got it wrong..

Cannot understand how a UK national newspaper can just publish a story of such a serious nature without any proof, witnesses, police reports e.t.c

It just makes you wonder..

The father of the child did not give chase for 30 yards, it was actually the mother that approached the man, gave him a good verbal rollocking & took her child back to where they were sunbathing (10 yards away)..

No one in any frame of mind is going attempt to abduct a child on crowded Kervansaray beach, they just would'nt have a chance in hell..

Stonehousepub thank you for at least trying to put light on the subject, I think the Sun and the idiot parents who decided to make a few quid out of a silly situatiion should be made to apologise. I must admit on my first visit to USA my son was 11yrs and we were in Kissamee (very small main street) . We had just finished a meal and he asked to go outside to a shop just a short distance from where we were. I did not see that as a problem but the American family we were chatting to were totally freaked that we had let him out alone. Needless to say he was fine, but not long after we returned to the UK a young person was killed in the same area that I took to be a safe holiday area. I still do not understand the parents who did not ask for advice or go the local police. We all live and learn I suppose.

so

let me get this straight

the child it seems wandered 10 or so yards away from the parents this chap "found" the child and was trying to say something to the mother (who it seems was not keeping a close eye on her child) and then they two weeks later decide to make up a story for the Sun Comic (newspaper) who without checking anything just go ahead and publish a load of rubbish?

so then why does the original chap not sue them? or get his side of the story told!!!

you really cannot go around making such serious accusations (the parents) and publishing them while (the newspapers)

Well done billyboy, I certainly think that The Sun should print some form of apology.

I was actually there as was my 4 year old son, so I feel it necessary to try and put some light on this story, in a way I do understand the families concern but not enough to allow North Cyprus such bad publicity.

I hav'nt got a clue what the accused was saying to the family, I watched him walking away to his sunbed shaking his head, he was with a lady who I assume was his partner & they were still sunbathing way after the British family left..

So there was plenty of time for the family to call the police or seek help or advice.

This story needs to be put straight

and my comment that i made on the sun site has not been published...

so have now e mailed mr Taylor (the journalist) with this link.....

Dont like liars, or s stirrers...and truth should come out...not fair to the innocent

and in this case the innocent are the guy at the beach and Cyprus.....

If this was a true attempted abduction, I would be baying for blood.....but seems from eye witness accounts that its a misunderstanding, Journalists should do more to get their facts right......

still dont understand the bit in the turkish paper though about the in and out times of the child (not parents) crossing the border (green line)...part holiday in south and part in north ??????

Cyprus has its problems...yes,,,,but why is it always the negative that is portrayed

do they say anuthing about the likes of gloria gaynor or shaggy or others coming to our beautiful country...yes they come for money but they come, where is the publicity for the positive outside of the NC....

I used to get The Sun, delivered until they started writing crap about celebraties and the Royals. The Royals ie Diana and Fergie were not in a position to defend themselves and the last straw was a double page spread of Joan Collins, on her terrace, WITH ROLLERS IN!!!! How dare she!!!!

I am intersted in NEWS not tittle tattle and I am sick to death of hearing about Katy Price/Jordan or whatever she calls herself now and Peter Andre - felt sorry for him marrying her. But they are not NEWS and I don't want to read about them.

With regards to this snatch - If someone did that to my child/Grandchild, I would have screamed the place down, everyone within 10 miles would have heard me and I would have made sure that the police and the newspapers knew about it. I certainly would not do nothing. They continued with their holiday - what about the child was he taken to a hospital for checks etc, he may have been suffering from shock etc.
