It took about 2 years to open Ledra Street, and it will take about 6 months to open the next one.

So things are moving a bit quicker. But if these "minor" issues took so long, can anyone really expect a solution in the next 10 years, never mind the next 10 months?

Why don't they do a little bit at a time?

For example, to make the lives of the average Cypriot a bit easier, they could open more crossing points a bit quicker. They could also allow mobile phones to "roam" in the "other area".

They could co-operate on other areas which both communities would benefit simultaneously. What ideas do you have for a step-by-step approach?

needs a bit more than pc i thinks .

starts with un and eu as its these official bodies that allow a divisde bigger than a crossing ,and bigger than a roaming mobile .

i do understand where you are coming from and didnt mean for these remarks to look flipant .

but you see how these bodies have allowed to treat the cypriot nation unfairly .

why should sports and education still be part of politics?

why shouldnt they both agree on one centrally run airport ,even under un control ?

why should all eu subsides go south?

Think you will find the EU is supporting the TRNC with grants. TRNC Vaughan had a good idea about opening the ports for a trial basis to see how it goes. Could not this be done on other things aswell.

Rauf Denktash had his 'hands tied' from the International arena which left him no option but to open the BORDER!

I suppose all the issues come down to "recognition".

However, I do agree that the issues should not be politicised.

Perhaps something along religious lines could start the ball rolling. Each community could be responsible for their own cemetaries.

Remember a couple of years ago the GC's sold electricity to the north. Let's have more things like that.

Let Greek tankers fill up with water from Turkey. It's a much shorter distance.

The ICG in their latest report state that EU grants to the TRNC will start to wind down at the end of 2009. The EU is holding off on its renewal to put pressure on both sides to come to a solution.

This is only going to hurt the TC's and further dampen the image they have of the EU.
