I have just been to pay my car tax. I paid exactly the same as last year 1576.25TL. Apparently there is no discount any more for not having any speeding fines. I thought car tax has been reduced this year.

I drive a freelander weighing 1576kg with an engine of 1996CC, it is 2005.

My friend drives a freelander which is 5 years old and her last car tax paid in September was 760.66TL. A lot cheaper.

Please can anyone let me know if they have a similar weighted and aged car what they paid this year.

Thanks

Perhaps 'Cyprus Today' would be kind enough to publish the correct facts - and not like last year's!

When the new government came in they reduced the tax and did away with the speeding reductions, unfortunately they realised too much revenue had been created so they had to reduce the discount and i believe anything over 1500kg is no longer eligible. ours was exactly the same in august, weight 2197kg 2,600 tl for a 2004 kia, Our friends same weight were lucky enough to tax before the new tax came in and this year tax with the discounts. next year maybe like us they will have to sell!

The rates are complicated & based on the weight of the vehicle (found in the log book) & the fuel used.

The most expensive are heavy diesels.

harita it is almost impossible to give a cost by model unless someone reading the forum has exactly the same vehicle & spec.

We have a Mitsubishi L200 2.8 diesel auto. Last year we paid 2080 tl. We taxed it last week and it was 800tl. Work that one out. We're not complaining though.

Pajero 2.5 SWB Auto diesel - First reg TRNC 1999 - tax this year 630TL.

Freelander 1.8 manual petrol - First reg TRNC 2000 - tax this year 860TL.

Seems like it pays to have an old vehicle! Freelander taxed in Girne but Pajero taxed in Lefcosia - don't know if there is any difference in the way things are worked out between offices but I will always tax at Lefcosia from now on!

Frankedad, We paid the same as you when we taxed our 2005 Landrover in September. Perhaps a significant factor is that our cars are 4 years old not 5 years old - I think a discount may kick in once they are 5 years and older. Is your friend's car petrol? That could also account for the difference in tax paid.

Yes, same office - looks like an old shed from the outside - just go on in, take a number and sit and watch the number counter thing till yours appears and give the right window the paperwork and the dosh. Far to simple and fast as well!
