Can anyone - perhaps Izzet ? tell us the rules for using a crossing in N Cyprus as it seems that nobody seems to stop to let people cross and they dont even slow down if people are on the crossing

Just like roundabouts, zebra crossings are a recent introduction that the locals and mainlanders find difficult to understand and master. Most drivers have no knowledge and were never taught the correct way to use them. Also on roundabouts lane markings are totally incorrect on many. So its a deep breath and look out for the idiot who is in a left hand lane turning right without indicators and a person in a right hand lane going straight ahead.

Never mind Zebra crossings. Watch out for the left hand drives that drive on the wrong side of the road, completely drunk doing over 120kph and hit you head on. It bloody hurts.

İf any Turkish are driving on the wrong side of the road its because in turkey they drive on the opposite side and its easily done and a story comes to mind of one old man found driving along the M25 the wrong way. Yes Sydney the green cross code would be great and any Turkish visitor should be made aware.

Billybob,

Yes they are supposed to be, but someone forgot to inform the locals about the regulations. That's why they park on the zig zags without a second thought.

So yes, if you see a person at or on a crossing and it is safe to stop, you must stop and give way to them.

But also the government need to learn about where to place crossings. 3 metres on the exit from a roundabout is not a good idea.

Has anyone noticed the orange flashing lights at the Girne American university?

What do they mean? Do you have to give way to drivers entering and leaving the university even if you have right of way?

I always wondered what these lights mean too.

The lights at GAU mean, for the time being, that a dangerous junction is ahead and treat with caution. This is a major flaw in the law here. If an accident happens, who is to blame? It is likely to be both parties. Why they can't just set the lights to work properly is beyond me. They are waiting till the new bypass opens and the road is heavily used before setting the lights into proper traffic control.
