At 11.11am did you stopt to think. The nation did it seems. The Queen lead the service and paid tribute to our last survivors of world war one. Its not possible to think that was nearly one hundred years ago. God rest thier souls. I hope and I pray our future great granchildren will not have to remeber wars. Yes we have lived with our families and many still are we only have to see the news every day. I hope for future generations they will look back with pride and think about the conflicts but I hope for peace in thier times xxxxxx

Thanks Jeannie. Will be nice to see my mates and family. Won't be gone long though ;-) It's wonderful here. Went for a drink in the Rose Gardens the other day, was walking back up into Lapta and some blokes who had been stood around their car at Rose Gardens stopped and gave me a lift. How Nice is that. In the shops they know me now and are friendly and know what I want. Went in eczane opposite Lillis other day for some gaviscon (suffer from terrible heartburn) and he was chatting to me like an old friend because I am a regular. Planted some cougettes in garden about a month ago, flowering already!! Just planted my tommy plants against back wall. Hope the goats don't get in again and eat the whole lot. Decimated our citrus trees. Didn't go for my herb patch for some reason. Stampled on it but didn't eat it.. Builder is going to put some temp fences around to stop them coming in.

We have had some really nice crochet poppies down our way, which were lovely to see and wear. Yes indeed Lilli observed the 2 minutes silence and made absolutely sure everyone else around me did too. That is the least we can do for the brave people who have lost their lives because of our freedom and continue to do so. Mike you sound very down, hope everything is OK? x

In Flanders Fields The Poppies Blow. By Colonel John McCrae The last verse goes; Take up our quarrel with the foe To you from fallen hands we throw The torch,be yours to hold it high If ye break faith with us who die We shall nor sleep, Though poppies grow in Flanders Field Copies of this should be sent to B liar,Brown,Cameron et al to remind them of the lives lost to keep us free. from being ruled by other countries.

Both my husband and I and most of the employees where my husband works observed the silence and rememebered those who gave up their lives. I was totally disgusted by the fact that some of the younger ones who work with my husband had to ask what it was all about. Don't they explain and observe the importance and relevance of 11th hour, 11th day, 11th mth in schools anymore. Like Simbas I get emotional, and even alone in the house yesterday I stood and observed the silence wih tears in my eyes. I pray for all our young men and women still putting their lives at risk.

As well as observing the silence the date brings back memories of one of my favourite schoolmasters, he was born 11/11/1911 it is 56 years since I left school but I always remember him.

Woodspeckie, so nice you still remember your favourite schoolmaster, I still have very fond memories of Mr Paterson in the 'qualie class' who was only in the class once a month as he was officially retired. We had the old ink wells and scratchy pens he taught us how to write with care and also told us about the world wars and the true meaning of the 11/11. He lives in my mind today as he made 'history' real. Not many teachers around today that will be remembered almost 50yrs after primary school. 'qualy class' - def: qualifying class. You either went to junior or senior secondary schools depending on how you did in the exam at 10-11yrs of age. We knew and respected 11/11. As a Girl Guide I was chosen to take the wreath in the church at the service. I still feel so proud and humble remembering that day.
