Does anyone know how we would get registered as a charity? How difficult is it and what would we need to know or do? Any info would be good.

Thanks

Chris

In case anyone is interested to read what britvic wrote on "the other board" (ridiculous to "announce" that here!):

"Re: Whisky Auction in aid of TRNC Healthcare

Postby britvic » Sun Nov 22, 2009 1:35 pm

Hi Chris, How are people going to pay their donations? You could very easily set up a pay pal account just like we have on here, that way people like me in the UK can donate to your cause, instead of bidding.

Here is the pay pal website: https://www.paypal-marketing.co.uk/camp ... l&mpch=ads

It really is simple to start it up, and they send you a button (Donations) to put on a web site. Vicki

When you set this up, you set it as a charity. Vicki"

P.S. for Vicki: The pictures of the whisky bottles (send to me by nurseawful, processed with my software and meant for this board cyprus44) were taken from my server in Holland and published on "the other board". Oh well, nothing new there. :

RE msg 6, britvic: (...) I did not post the picture of the bottles! (...)

=> Which I didn't even *try* to suggest, Vicki. And since it's for such a good cause I forgive Nigel Watson completely.

nurseawful....is there anyway that you could join forces with the TKOD (112) as they have already been through the process of setting up a charity?

This seems to be such a good cause that it would be a shame to loose it through 'red tape'

Margaret Ray , the Chair person of KAR could give you advice, as she has been through the procedure. Think you may have a tough ride. I seem to remember it was not an easy one for 112.

Just looked at the link from Malsancak, it does seem like a lot of fuss, maybe it would be better for someone to set it up in the UK, and transfer the funds over?

It most definitely is a fuss! I imagine collecting money in UK for a TRNC cause might be a bit difficult though.

Sorry to be a 'doom and gloom' 'merchant' but setting up a charity here is a HUGE headache, as '112' KAR , BARK , and any others. Do take advice from those who have trod the path before, but be warned - ev ery time you think you are home and dry, someone says 'Ah but we want you to change this wording' etc, etc and the months roll by. It seems to be an average of two years to attain what you want, but, as every journey starts with a single step, if you start now and jump through all the hoops, then in two years' time you could be legal.

As to starting up in U.K and then transferring monies, this could work, but I think you should check with the Government here as to how that might work.

The Government seems to be getting tighter and tighter these days, so perhaps you should find a Turkish speaker and get to talk to someone in the right department (and that is a huge hoop to start with!)

At the end of the day, just decide how important this is! Then get stuck in.
