I'm just about to take up residence in a new place and I've got my work permit through. Do I need to register with the police in the village where I'll live? And, do I then apply to them for a character reference in future which I could need if I was to apply for residency for example, or anything else I might need to show a clean criminal record? Thanks for the advice...

So what happens when you need a character reference in the future, can you go to your local police station where you live?

You can get it done at Girne or Lefkosa police station. You need a photo and stamp. (can't remember how much). Take your passport. In Lefkosa it will be done the same or next day. In Girne it takes up to two weeks.
