The point I was TRYING to make is that these headlines and this article could have been written in January 2010 but they weren't .......this article was written in November 2004, and that in all that time, even though this article is saying exactly the same thing as the January 2010 headlines, there has never been another case that has been in the public domain. So although prices have of course changed, (they have everywhere)what they are saying hasn't.....only that they can perhaps take EU property from Eu citizens ?????????

Daffodils, There was always this threat and a warning that TMD and Exchange properties belonging to "displaced people" would in the event of a settlement or legal challenge, end up being returned to the GC owner or compensation being paid to the GC owner. This has been the ECHR's stance for years now. Buying in the TRNC has always been about taking a risk. This is fine if you go in with your eyes wide open and are aware and prepared for any consequences. There are unfortunately other people going through the same experience and legal battles that the poor Orams faced. It really is about doing some good research rather than dismissing the Orams as a one off. This risk was always there, even in 2002. It has simply become more publicised and a much greater risk because of the outcome of the Oram's case.

In 2003/4 TCs were desperately building on GC fields because the Annan Plan, I believe, stated that GCs whose land had been developed would have to take compensation if the referendum was successful. TCs already had a good idea that they were going to vote yes and assumed that GCs would in order to get into the EU. Somehow they couldn't believe that EU entry would be for only a part of the country and wouldn't depend on a yes vote. In 2004 it became clear to anyone who bothered to investigate that there would be a problem with buying GC property. The government gradually stopped issuing PTPs and deeds soon afterwards and made excuses that they couldn't process them quickly. They then talked about issuing leases instead, hoping to avoid the problems they could see were coming. That wouldn't have worked because we're now a country of mass trespassers where discrimination is the norm. In the south the government allows mass trespassing on TC property and no one in the EU gives a damn.
