Just a thought, Izzet, as some will donate and some wont, why can you not make it that every one has a joining fee, of say £5.00 . I am sure every one would be willing to support the forum. Then an annual top up of a £1.00. ....

Do not know if the following pay for advertising, but in the last week either on Forum Page or Events page they have all been advertising their businesses. Turkbank/Bellapais car rental and taxi service/Pembegul Market/Guido’s/Cine – Miles/Back in time bar/Taj Mahal/JK’s golf society/Tiga Trading/Tolga’s/The Cabin/Zeki’s Bar/Zet Karting/Cyprus Queen/Paradise/Joya Bar & Bistro/Antique Bar & Restaurant/J K ‘s Bar Lapta/Stevie’s Bar & Restaurant/Bar 8.8/Tango to Buddha/The Fez/Mountain View Hotel/Levant Restaurant/Rumours Bar/Shayna Beach Bar & Restaurant/Mambo Bar/Korinium Golf Club/Rocks Hotel/Bellapais Abbey/Grape Gardens If they all made a donation of £50 - £100p/a the site would get between £1500 and £3100. How about creating a Bar & Restaurant tab, then all Bar & Restaurants could make donations and promote their businesses, and use Events page for any events. ----- Izzet replies: None of them above pay advertising fees. Posting on events section is free of charge. I think we'd all appreciate if the owner of the above places contributes as much as they could - even £5 would help. Thanks!

I don't think you can expect the businesses that are struggling to pay for advertising - that is the reason they use Cyprus 44 and not advertise in journa,ls. But I for one would pay £1, but how. On tghe donation page it suggests £10 and upwards. Or could you have a collection tin, somewhere, Izzet? If there are nearly 8000 of us, then £1 each will take care of the deficit. Well, as a beginning, but how????? -------- Izzet repies: On the donation page, you can select "Other" and then donate whatever you like. Thank you very much indeed.

I have a Paypal account, but when I try to "log in" using my details, it doesn't work. When I go to the Paypal site and use the same details, it works fine, but it asks me for the email address, or mobile phone number of the recipient. Could you sort out the Paypal issue, so customers like me can donate through this method, if this is not possible, please can you put your email address, in your first message, so donations can be made easily. I like the idea of £5 to join and £1 per year, so I will be donating £6, asap. Another idea, could the restaurants/businesses that advertise here accept cash donations and give reciepts? Good luck. PS. Is there some law about receiving donations? PPS. All donators should never be banned. ------------- For PayPal, if you do it manually, you can send your donation to donate@cyprus44.com. I've written this email address on the donation page. Thank you very much.

I don't mind making a donation but would prefer not to use paypal. Can you set up a couple of collection points for people to leave cash please? -------- Izzet replies: Thank you for the suggestion. For people who don't have a PayPal account and live in Kyrenia, they can drop off their donation (in an envelope with your name pls or leave it out for Anonymous listing) to Pacific Petrol Station. You can give is to anybody working there and tell them it is for Izzet. Pacific Petrol Station / Rent-A-Car is located in centre Kyrenia. http://www.pacific-rentals.com/images/map.jpg

before you start charging people can you get a decent web site?! Lets face it this forums is about the least sophisticated I have ever seen in my life. Try phpBB or something. --------- Izzet replies: I am sorry our forum features did not meet your expectations. Although ready-made forum codes like phpBB and vBulletin offer more features, they are not 100% customisable. By hand writing the code, we can offer really useful features like our "popular tag" pages where people can retrieve valuable information posted on our forums over 3 years! We can also write specific code to prevent abuse and keep the interface simple and effective. I can assure you that when I first setup this forum, I have evaluated my options very carefully and I do not regret that we are using our own forum code at all! Also, I would consider Cyprus44 "a decent website". Thank you for your input.

Willyhoops 29 - This site suits most of the users. Sophistication is not something that most who relate to North Cyprus want a lot of but simplicity is and most when they get the hang of it find Cyprus44 simple enough. By the way looking at your web site it is so simplistic that it is only equal to a paper list. Where are the pretty pictures, why no information, no music and what about some fancy web gizmo's and pop ups? In other words if simplicity is good for you let's not compalin about it here. I think that members are paying for the information content and want little else.

Cyprusquest, Yea my web site is as simple as it get. But I do have a nift free file transfer php script at http://www.willyhoops.com/upload/ that I wrote myself. By phpBB or vBulletin are infinitely better. You do not need "popular tag" pages becuase you can create a "for sale" forum and a politics forum etc. Your web site is not simple anwyay, you have to scroll down to get past all the advertising and links. The 1000 character limit is idiotic. The big news story is the high court on flights which is months old. There is no shopping directory. Better to ditch all the junk and concentrate on the forum. Be proud of what you do and the money will flow. I will give you £500 if you do a decent job. I can even donate the domian http://www.lovenortherncyprus.com/ I was going to set up a decent competing forum but I have no time. Remember you represent the TRNC right now it looks like fargamusta hight street - you can do a better job of promoting the country you love. 0 chrs lft

Izzet I am sorry to have polluted your donations request thread with feedback. Please feel delete my negative comments if you feel they do more harm than good (negative comments can motivate loyal supporters in sympathy). Although I think the site is pretty ugly compared to, for example, http://www.northcyprusfreepress.com it is easy to use and a very good idea to show all the threads in the home page. Personally I find the 1000 character limit which has people pasting text across multiple posts very very very annoying however. I also think the inability to attach images is a real shame especially for the for sale posts. I donated £20 to you anyway.

Izzet it might be a good idea to arrange a bank account in UK for donations. As an example I have a fast track facility on my bank account in order for me to pay funds into any other different account by phone so if you post this UK account the board at the top of the page in effect my donation would be in that bank account within 2 hrs, simple !!! hope this helps .

Pipie Msg 47 Good idea but to do this Izzet and anyone involved in the UK might hit some problems with what might appear to the authorities to be some sort of money laundering or scam. I had thought of allowing use of one of our IAH accounts for charities in the TRNC (and for Cy44) but then thought through the scenario above and decided it would be wiser to not do so. The practicality is that Izzet at least might need to visit the UK and have a UK address to open an account. Going by experience (for others) the account would probably not allow foreign transfers to start with if at all.

gooligan The €50000 was not 'given' to Izzet, it was an award made to the business 'Papazor Enterprises Ltd.' - an internet-based car and villa rental service represented by Izzet Zorlu and Stathis Papaefstathiou. And as such is totally separate from anything else that Izzet runs himself i.e. Cyprus44. So what are you trying to infer gooligan?

gooligan, The Stelios award has nothing to do with Cyprus44. My Greek Cypriot friend Stathis and I received the Stelios award because of another venture we have, which had different requirements in order to apply and was qualified among 40 or so applications. I have a few businesses and do contribute around £3000 to Cyprus44, as mentioned in the details on the donation page. I also personally cover all other costs of Cyprus44 as they appear because this is my hobby and I enjoy running the website. I am negative 4000 at the moment as 6 months upfront for hosting has been paid. Hopefully I should be able to cover most of it with the donations and the expected advertising renewals soon and get ready for monthly renewals thereafter. If you have any other concerns, feel free to post them here or email me directly. Izzet

My support for C44 has nothing to do with Izzet and therefore what he does or what businesses he runs is none of my business. The fact is that every time there is an important development in the Cyprus problem the Greek Cypriots attack and bring down the forums connected with north Cyprus. TRNC Villa Owners was attacked and shut down a few times and we had to start from scratch again. C44 came under attack in the same way but because it is privately owned it managed to recover every time. However people who use these forums went without news for days. Izzet had to invest some more money in order to build up the defences and fight off these evil attacks. It is in our common interest and a matter of pride to keep this forum going and fight off similar attacks in the future. This is the only reason I have donated willingly. The amount is not so important, it can be very little or substantial but numbers are important. We must show that we will not allow the fanatics to beat us and this is a chance for everyone to show their support. ismet

My additional reason for donating was the same as Ismet's, to pay for the technology needed to keep Cyp44 running. At NCFP, we've so far been lucky that the few attacks we've had have been half hearted, possibly because we allow GCs to show how abusive they are plus we have a self-moderating system which so far works. This means that NCFP's financial costs are almost zero.

Hi Izzet, Can I suggest that making the list of donations alphabetic might be easier on the eye and make people less aware of timing or amounts. As you know I do not want to make public how much as a company we are contributing (or not) as then you will show IAH no favours or be prejudiced for or against us and others might like that option too. I know you are happy that any one adds to the Cyprus44 coffers.

Hi Izzet, I think Cyprus44 is a wonderful forum and I congratulate you on your dedication to keep it going through thick and thin. I am happy to donate and I hope that many of the forum members who have not yet done so wake up and see the value of the forum and donate accordingly. Best wishes, Nareik.

I give up. I have tried everything to use my UK and Cyprus debit and credit cards but this b....y PAYPAL won't let me use any of them because it formats the address details according to the country and you have to use the right address for it to accept the card. If I select UK it wants a UK address which I don't have; if I select Turkey my HSBC accounts have only local addresses (not Mersin 10 Turkey). How does anyone else manage ???? -------- Izzet replies: I'm sorry that you are going over this because you want to donate. I am indeed thankful for this. Try using your local address in TRNC and select Turkey for your country. For city, use "Girne" or "Lefkosa". The postal service knows that these are in TRNC and without writing Mersin 10, I still get mail like this all the time. Also, I have never received anything from PayPal by mail, they just need it to match with your credit card company. If anybody else can suggest further, please do so.

Izzet I have tried everything that you say. But the registered country on my HSBC account is "Kibris" (which I cannot change) and Paypal do not register a Kibris. Also for Turkey they want a valid postcode which we do not have in Cyprus. I can enter something valid in every field but then it does not match the statement address for the card. I have online changed my HSBC address to every possible combination of Girne/Lefkosa/Karsiyaka etc. but I cannot get Paypal to accept a match. If you will give me details of a bank account I can transfer easily online from either my UK or Cyprus accounts, via either SWIFT or an IBAN number. Or later this week I can call at Pacific. But for many reasons I would dearly love to crack this Paypal problem.

Jovial John, (who is not so jovial now!!) where it says postcode put N/A, and that should sort it. i always put that when buying something on the internet where it needs postcode, and also on Ebay when I am getting things sent here. I even use a P.O. Box no for my Cyprus address. Keep trying.

If you wish to donate but having problems with PayPal, you may drop off cash in an envelope to my name at Pacific Petrol Station / Rent A Car. It's the second petrol station on the right hand side, when driving from the Kyrenia-Lefkosa main roundabout towards Colony Hotel. Please make sure to write your name as well on the envelope or put a note inside. Thank you! Izzet

Izzet - I'd like to make a donation too but a) have never used Paypal (and don't want to if not really needed), b) I have no Banking facilities/contact addresses in NC and c) I permanently reside in the UK. Can I send a UK cheque to you direct by post ? Will that work ? Swannee7 -------- Izzet replies: Firstly, thank you for your support. Banks here don't accept UK cheques unless they are over £100 I think because of the overhead and costs involved. Please consider donating using PayPal which is quite straightforward. Thank you very much.

I would like to donate too, but like many people do not like Paypal at all - hopefully will find the Pacific Petrol station/Rent a Car and be able to do it that way. Lots of the sites for TRNC are now defunct due to lack of funding, and I think it is an important way of keeping in touch with everything that is happening, this site is far more alive than the others were.

Seriously, have seen some of your postings DutchCrusader, and would love to have a beer with you (mine's a scotch by the way), I am sure it would not be a boring evening! |

I will donate soon when I get back but I think that the estate agents and companies should pay for advertising as a rule and that it should be written in. Some agents & companies get good business from this site so it is only right that they should pay their way. For those that have or do donate for advertising well done, for those that have not then shame on you.

Lilli - Thank you for your help. PayPal or bringing to pacific doesn't matter. Whatever is easier for you! BoTanica - Sorry we don't have a collection point in East of Girne. If it's easier, you can mail it to: Izzet / Cyprus44 23 Ecevit Cad. Girne You can always use PayPal to donate easily with your credit card. It's secure and fast. NoNowt - I will check and let you know. Thank you.

We are at £1220 now. I hope we will be able to raise a bit more, at least to reach £2000. Last year, we received £8000 funding. Assuming all advertisers renew this year, we will still get £8000. Our running costs will be £13000 this year. With £2000 donations, we will be only £3000 short which is much better than our condition on 1st March So, thank you all who donated and showed your support!
