Let the person settle in first. Too many are attention seeking and rude to a first poster.

Hope you find your property from the eye in the sky.

Hilltop,

Your right what a bunch of self inflated rude up themselves people. Is this their personal forum. Sad, very sad people. If this is the type of person out in TRNC I hope to God I dont meet up with them.

MCsteviet,

Thanks for the support as well. Yes I should know a bit more about it. I and 5 others have bought one each. I know the guy whos selling them, trust him lots, very good mate of mine. As for going tto TRNC Ive traveled all over the world for many years. I dont need to go OR be told what TRNC is like. Certainly come of the expats are to be avoided. Funny how some people try to spoil things. Again thanks to the pair of you. Geoff

Hi Geff3

Google earth might not be much use as it shows area as it was 2 years ago approx, and presume your site is newer. You would need to know of some older landmarkto point you in the right area. Unwins could tell you what the site is nearand you work from there,ie some hotel or monument etc.

Just out of interest to the Kavanlar purchasers and our tetchy friend, here is the Google Earth location for the Kavanlar Apartments in Alsancak off Sht Munur Sokak.

http://maps.google.co.uk/maps?ll=35.342237,33.200049&z=18&t=h&hl=en-GB

You will notice the annoying lack of buildings, this is because it was taken in early 2005 and when the Kavanlar development was still a twinkle in Ilker's eye. Any pent houses around here in Alsancak built since will not show up on Google Earth

Sorry

No Turtle

The pictures on Google Earth are like that because they have not been updated. Where those lines of trees are in the photograph is now a substantial development.

I wish people would be polite on this forum. When working with

Turkish people in Istanbul they always said to me that the English

were polite (don't know if that includes us north & west of the border!)

have used google earth for north cyprus and you need to have a hard copy map with the location marked on for reference, before you can start moving around on the google system, or am I stating the bleedin' obvious?

another weird thing is because the patchwork of photos were all taken

at different times and then were somehow joined together in the software

things like a road can literally fade into the twilight zone eg the new fast north coast road as it heads east in the tatlisu area, just disappears into the earth

could be dodgy, suppose you discover a nice country pub that serves watney's red barrel or kebab restaurant whatever and when you try and map out where it was with google earth nobody else can find out if it was really there or just a symptom of heatstroke, you could end up like the poor crazy geezer at the end of "invasion of the body snatchers" (1958) "I'm not mad officer not mad!!!"

Sorry for late reply. I was not going to revisit this site. But I am pleased I have as some of the people in the forum are very nice after all. And I thank them for the support and information.

Here we go! I’ve travelled around the world a bit and I am ashamed to say the Brits generally do not stick together like other nationalities do. Wherever I have worked there are always enclaves of nationals sticking together and protecting each other but sadly not the Brits. Anyway I digress

I have purchased through a very good pal (up to now, ha!) The constructor is "Kavanlar". The reference of the plan is XI/16.E2, 6, 3 storey blocks.

Any help?? Could we be neighbours in the future???

Using Google Earth saved us from a potentially disastrous situation.

Don't knock it!

During our purchase of a villa earlier this year, we asked for copies of the plans for the site and the setting plan for the villa.

What came back were plans showing the access road identical to the Google images, but as we had been out in April, we realised that the finished access road was in a different position on what is indicated as agricultural land.

We could have ended up with a lovely villa we had no access to!

Lawyers got onto in ( I can't blame them, they cant visit every property they act on). They got the vendors to alter the contract and drew up new plans and title to the road with binding confirmation from the local owners of access rights and ownership forever with no possibility for additional money.

p.s. I know that some Google images date from 2006/7 from the constructions and roads shown.
