140 members have donated out of a possible 8119 members - thats a % of 17.24.

How can it be 1,724%?

1,724% of 8119 = 139,971.

Do it on your calculator - 8119 x 1724%

I agree that DC used a comma instead of a full stop, but we all knew what he meant.

I was referring to your howler.......

RE msg 11, Hilltop: (...) I agree that DC used a comma instead of a full stop, but we all knew what he meant. (...)

=> Even better: the rest of Europe (outside the UK) knows what I meant... On the Continent (some 800 million people outside the UK) we write 1,5 when we mean one and a half and not 1.5. So one thousand and a half would be written like 1.000,5 or 1000,5 and not 1,000.5 or 1000.5 - but, of course, the "rest of Europe" drives on the wrong of the road also...

On a board where the vast majority of readers are British, I think my comments are more accurate than yours.

Luckily we Brit's have little interest or concern what mainland continentals do.

At the end of the day DC, I was standing up for you......but what the hell

I'd just like to say, that for a lot of people, charity starts at home. Some people simply can't afford to donate, and trying to shame people into giving, i think is just plain wrong. Just my opinion.

You have to remember the real membership is nothing like 8,000.. Do bear in mind the is The Hotel California... you can never leave.

There are only 2,000 active members according to Izzet's stats. He asked for £1 from each... if he got just £1 from each he would achieve his aim.

Dutch you are wasting your time trying to get your point across to this lot.

Simple fact is they do not care - until the facility goes down the pan - then it will be every one elses fault.

Except you won't be able to hear them whinging as the forum will not exist.

RE msg 27, daisy_dukes: (...) I'd just like to say, that for a lot of people, charity starts at home. (...)

=> Supporting C44 is not a matter of charity. It's paying for what you use and want to keep safe from malicious people and their attacks. Izzet has made that clear.

(...) Some people simply can't afford to donate, (...)

=> "Some", OK. But I wonder if that is the reason for all (minus some) who didn't care to donate anything yet. The use of the Internet isn't free either.

(...) and trying to shame people into giving, i think is just plain wrong. Just my opinion. (...)

=> You are of course entitled to your opinion. But I have mine: there's no obligation to donate but some pushing may help...

8119 members?

That can not be the true figure surely because of the no cancelling account policy how many actual active members accounts are there?

Get that figure then a more accurate calculation can be done.

Saints read post 28.... Izzet says there are approx 2,000 active members.. He can run stats from the database to verify the actual number of distinct contributors over a given period...

Hans, for what it's worth... Brits often don't respond in a positive manner to being badgered... the restaurant touts at the Harbour are a prime example... it's very off-putting and those considering making a donation might just react in a negative way to this one stop short of name and shame tactic... i.e. you might be doing more harm than good...

Dutch, another measured response... it's all stick and no carrot.

What's the point of a link to a list of those who have donated?

" If I - seldom - feel like it I read your wise British lessons on another board. You won't mind I don't do it here. "

This is patently logically flawed as an argument... as you have.. doh!

Daisy I'm surprised at your comment, charity begins at home and 44 is for a lot of us a life line as it is for your rescue forum, we are all surprised at the level of donations received by izett which i personally think is appalling, i only wish more would give x

Yeah the 'Charity Starts At Home' argument is a bit thin... Let's face it donating a pound and complying with Izzet's appeal is not going to break anybody's bank...

Maybe Izzet has less real members than he thinks.. I'm surprised he estimates 2,000 when I see no more than 50 regular contributors plus one hundred occasional 'dippers'. We've reached most of them...

Maybe a different approach is needed. Maybe a personal email to those who have not donated would be a more subtle approach.

Why is everyone having a go at me...i only stated that some people simply can't afford a quid....some folk don't have credit cards and so can not donate on line...and to get somewhere to donate means petrol money/bus fare...

I am sorry that this whole donation thing is causing negative discussion.

Please calm down.

The ones who donated - I appreciate their support and know them.

The ones who did not donate, this is okey. This is a free forum. There is no requirement that you have to donate.

For the ones questioning the number of active members.

1970 members have logged into cyprus44 in the past 90 days.

I should have been clearer when I first announced the number.

A conclusion can be made: most members do not post but like to read only.

There are also a bunch of people who do not bother to register but still read the forum on a regular basis.

Thanks,

Izzet

=> You're ridiculous, Groucho. Izzet's action started on the first of March and on the third of April only 140 members had donated - and then you suggest that the content of my post of April 3 might people make think twice whether to donate or not..?! Do people really need more than a month to think about Izzet's simple and clear request and than wait for a post by me to decide "no!"..? You just wrote it for the sake of writing, but that's nothing new for you, eh?

Daisy I'm not having a go at you, I just don't agree with your analogy that donating to this would cause anybody financial strain....

Dutch , reading what Izzet has posted, I think he's more in tune with what I'm trying to say than your attempt to shame people. Why are you so impatient?

You, I note, have yet again taken to name calling... which is a shame. I'm only expressing my opinion.
