Sorry but I got the news only today, that Mr Talat has issued an invitation in both Turkish and English which states :

TRNC Presidency Independent Candiate, Mr Mehmet Ali Talat, would be honoured to be together with you at a cocktail receptuion that will be held in Ozankoy, 9th April, Friday, 21.30 hrs at Ozankoy Sports Club.

Not sure whether he will be answering questions, but (if you are not going to the 112 Ball) this could be a chance to ask some before going to hear Eroglu on Monday at Pia Bella.

Somebody better tell him that 'cocktail hour' is from 19.00 for 45 minutes if he's staying with etiquette which, from his previous performance in power has been somewhat lacking!

Blimey Richard, you really are looking for a one way ticket out of the TRNC aren't you?

In my days of cocktails in Her Majesty's Services it was 1800 hrs-1930 hrs, prior to dinner at 20.00 hrs.

However it's the thought that matters.

Is he arriving in the dark so he won't see the bloody mess that has been made of the center of this old village? All with EU funds and in the name of progress of course - maybe coming in by helicopter so he won't have to drive over all the potholes on the way.

Grrrrrrrrrrrrr

Sorry, calm now. Have a nice night, he is a decent chap anyway.

Maybe the Med time for cocktails is after dinner, or possibly after a full day of other committments! Who knows! But I have received an e mail from someone who was at a function and described Mr Talat with praise.

Just wish I could go tomorrow.

Richard,

You are referring to our Head-of-State. If he or his predecessor has ever kept you waiting it was no doubt for matters of State; matters which though possibly of no import to you are perhaps of some concern for some of the others who live in the TRNC.

He and President Denktas (and Prime Minister Eroglu for that matter) are all known as courteous, charming and amicable. These are something of a requirement for the position.

Perhaps you could act likewise when referring to them.

Nothing wrong with Rauf Denktash, about time he made a comeback!

Nice idea, Brinsley, but I am sure Denktash stood down because HE felt it was time due to many factors. He is, of course, still working hard in the background to do what he can for 'his' people. There are many who would have him come back, but maybe, just maybe, at his age he feels he does not have the stmaina required. And he DID have a heart operation a while back.

As to the main candidates in the election, I agree with Gordon. Without the attributes of which Gordon speaks, none of them would get a vote. To be a leader, one must have certain qualities - even Mr Brown in U.K has many good qualities. It is just that no one can please all the people all of the time. And, as a friend of mine used to say 'No man is the repository of all wisdom'. It must be pretty tough to be at that level of responsibility whilst being but a human being.
