Do not under any circumstance buy a South Cyprus plated car from a european expat in the North, they sell their cars very cheaply in the North due to the tax duty implications in the South. If you buy the vehicle it can NEVER be registered in your name and the owner can recall the car at anytime and you try and explain that one to the police over here and they will tell you that you took the risk you suffer the consequences. You will lose your money and the car. YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED

I'm a little puzzled about what you are claiming. Can you elaborate? Is there a alledged fraud where cars are stolen in the south and re-sold in the north?

Not neccesarily fraud, what happens is this: Over the years UK citizens moved to the South and were allowed to bring in one vehicle tax free, the condition being that when sold the tax would have to be paid, now they have moved to the North and think if they sell the car here cheaply they get rid and have saved a few quid on tax, however the new owner can't register the car North or South without incurring the duty and tax, if you can't register the car it will always belong to the previous owner and if he called the police to say that you are driving his car without permission you will be arrested, you can then explain the purchase proceedure to the police if the original owners denies that a deal took place, he will take his car, your money and a smile home with him, obviously you can the threaten the owner with certain acts to encourage him to hand back your money, but if that doesn't work your scuppered.
