By the sea in Catalkoy,past Supreme Supermarket.A bit of a walk from main road maybe 15 minutes.Uphill in places on the way back so easy on the effes!Buses run frequently to Catalkoy/Esentepe but I don't know when they stop for your return.

The beach is going up to 7TL or so we were told by the young man who showed us around Shayna earlier this week. The revamp is impressive.

Keithcaley, well hubby was going down just for an early evening swim, 6 O clockish and he was still charged 5Tl last year even though he wasn't using any of the facilities only the sea itself!! They wouldn't listen to any of his arguments.

id of thought if maybe half a million pounds is spent on a revamp people wouldnt mind paying just a tad more to enjoy them self?

Did we want some profit after the refurb of our home?



Anyway,it is for sure going to be a wonderful place to chill and relax and watch the beautiful sunset from.

When this happened at Kervansaray beach, the customers rang the Police, who instructed the 'guards ' to let them onto the beach free of charge

They can 'insist' all they like; they can 'not listen' but they cannot legally stop you from going on a Public Beach or take money off you if you do not use their facilities.

Of course anyone would want a return on an investment

Beaches are a big attraction, and the operators obviously hope that people will desire to USE the extra facilities which they have provided at great expense, and pay for the privilege, but you cannot MAKE people use the facilities if all they want to do is walk or sit on the PUBLIC beach, and swim in the PUBLIC sea!

Just because the investors have spent money on facilities does NOT give them the right to demand money from anyone who happens to wander by, they surely knew, BEFORE they invested their cash in the project, that access to beaches is FREE in TRNC

I do hope that Shayna is a success tho

There is absolutely no need to swear - even if the word WAS 'thinly disguised'

If a party of 6 or 10 people are all expected to pay 10TL FOR NOTHING then in my opinion (and it's only an opinion ) it's well worth arguing about, even without the principle that it's ILLEGAL

How would you feel if someone tried to charge you 10TL for the privilege of walking along the pavement?

It's a SCAM, pure and simple - if not actual extortion

Local Cypriots wouldn't pay, they know the law - this is taking advantage of tourists and foreigners who aren't so 'savvy'

They should get their 'Business Model' sorted out, taking full account of the law

According to Cyprus Today, the Mercure Hotel 'Stole' part of Kervansaray beach, installed a ticket seller, and were charging (or trying to charge) people to go on the beach

If you think that's OK, then we have to agree to differ, I won't even make a comment about your 'Morals'

Oops! I just did - indirectly!

Well done Keith for pointing out the law but I am a coward and hate confrontation so its up the road and off the rocks for me - yes if you are using their facilities I agree you should pay but those who want to have a swim after their days work it could be as much as 140tl - 196tl a month is a big bite out of the minimum wage. Maybe to be fair as they do keep the beach clean a minium charge of 2tl and then extra for beds etc It would be nice if you ate and drank at the establishment a little could be refunded.
