| Britain's biggest insurer, Aviva, has introduced an 'ash tax' on travellers who fear their holidays may be cancelled. Those who have a travel insurance policy with the company will have to pay £10 on their annual policy to cover themselves against any disruption caused by the ash cloud. Aviva said it had previously been paying out out of goodwill, but from July 1 customers needed to pay extra to guarantee that they would be covered. Rochelle Turner, head of research for Which? Travel, said: 'Travel insurers have not come out of this situation very well, people feel let down by them. From now on travellers that want an assurance that their holiday will be protected from the disruption are going to have to pay extra for that.' The add-on cover will be a fixed cost of £5 per insured person for single trip or £10 per insured person for annual insurance |
