I would expect to pay 50TL - which is fair, not 5... Translation is a serious job..

No it's not google translations. I work for an agency that charges 10 TL per page (1000 chars), the employees are paid 5-6 lira depending on how complicated the text is. I charge 5 lira when I do private translations and I also work as a simultaneous translator for many large companies (Renault, BAT etc). I'm able to charge such prices because of the volume of translations I deal with. I don't think it's fair to charge any more than what I am paid regularly for the same work just because the work is freelance. And I certainly didn't expect to be told my charges are too low when there are many "Interpreting and Translation Studies" students that translate for as low as 2TL per 1000 chars in Turkey.

I know translation is a serious job, it's my full-time job.

So again, yes. It is a serious offer.

You are undervaluing your services. It is not everyone who can do this work, and it is not easy.

I think you'll find that in Turkey prices are very different to NC for translation and the number of people offering such services is unbelievable. Even Medical translations do not cost anywhere near what you are being quoted. I'm currently working for a pharmaceutical company at 6 lira per page and that was not even their first offer. It's a competitive field. We all work for agency rates because we wouldn't be able to find the same volume of work without them.
