Hi

After the strong winds recently loads of fine dust had settled at the bottom of the pool. So yesterday it was cleaned and all was sucked up, job done.

But when the suction pipe was taken off the silt was thrown back into the pool...hence it is extremely cloudy. Whilst we know we need to wait for this to settle what can we do to stop this happening in the future

We think the filters aren't able to cope with the dust as it is so fine. We need expert advice.

Do you maintain your own pool or do you pay someone to?

Who's teaching you?

Floc refers to the use of flocculant.

Vacuum to waste means hoover in the waste position (not the filter position) on the multi-port valve.

Don't forget to rinse.

And after you have vacumed your pool and got it back looking good.

Try zerochlor maybe!

As a alternative to chlorine

didn't someone say on this forum that it only takes 5 minutes to learn how to clean a pool?

Not so easy when things go wrong though isnt it!

Maybe hire someone to teach you!??

There are companies earning money with this knowledge, and a few companies are very good at doing this (pool maintenance).. but there are many cowboys out there who where just in the same position as you and are now cleaning loads of pools.. So, you understand what I mean.. If you dont know how to set your "pump" on waste or rinse, and dont know what a flocculant is, then probabbly its much to early for you to clean your pool...

I will give only one advise, which should include all the answer to your needs;

Google.

Thankyou to all whom gave good useful advice, as usual I note the negative comments. We are not stupid and more than capable of cleaning the pool.....but obviously want to learn everything there is. Have been maintaining the pool since the begining of the year without mis-hap.

The pool is now actually sorted.

hey gilken

dont worry about the negative comments.. you will get there, but it looks like you are going to learn from your mistakes.

small advice when the fine dust drops to the base and is really dirty turn your multi valve to waste than turn the vacuum valve on and this will take all the dust from the base straight out from the backwash pipe without entering the sand filter. after the operation is done turn your multi valve to rinse and do this for 30 seconds this will pump out the remaining dirty water in the pipes.

floc drops all that fine dust in the water to the base than you leave it for 24hr when it sinks vacuum to waste and repeat what i have told you above.
