Is it possible to go through to the south and receive treatment in one of their state hospitals or would it have to be a private hospital as I may need a small operation on the heel of my foot and wondered as the south is part of the EU would I be entitled to free hospital treatment. Has anyone here had an operation in a south hospital any info would be gratefully appreciated.

Maggymay I believe that you would have to go private because even as an EU citizen, I don't believe that this gives rights to anything other than 'emergency' treatment in a state hospital and even then without inssurance you may have to pay for it. I hope that someone is able to say otherwise. Good luck Paul

Absolutely, If you're receiving a UK state pension, or in receipt of long-term incapacity benefit, you may be entitled to state healthcare paid for by the UK. You will need to apply for an E121, which you should then present to the health authorities in Cyprus. However, if you move to Cyprus to live but not work and do not receive a UK benefit, you may be eligible for up to two-and-a-half years of state healthcare cover, paid for by the UK. In this case, you will need to apply for an E106. For more details on how to apply for an E121 or E106, visit the 'Moving abroad' section. How to register your E121 or E106 In both cases, you will need to contact one of the state hospitals or the Ministry of Health and give it a copy of the original E121/ E106 plus a completed application form for a Cypriot Medical Card. The form is downloadable from its website or can be obtained from the Ministry of Health. You should also contact the Civil Registry and Migration Department to regist

I am sorry to disagree with this but unless you have an address in the south I doubt you will get your treatment done on your E121 or E106. The butlers wife

Can I just remind everybody that it was the Nicosia Hospital that the GCs put the TC patients and workers through the mincing machine in 1963/64 so while you are there receiving treatment remember them and hope that they don't suddenly revert to mincing mode? This thread is being monitored by our eagle eyed friends from another forum, frothing in the mouth while contemplating how to attack any Brits that cross the line for treatment. They can get stuffed. Go there with your EU passport and lest see if they can refuse you. Don't worry they don't have the balls these days, they are all talk and no action thank god.

I should have said, if anybody needs to specify addresses in the south for the procedure, just say YFred Castle, Lurucina. Let them check it out.

No, you definitely won't get free treatment in the south because you don't live there. You would get treatment if you were on holiday there and had the appropriate UK document but, unfortunately, that doesn't apply to you either. They wouldn't refuse to treat you in the state hospitals but any treatment will come with a bill attached and I suspect it would be considerably cheaper here.

If you are going to see a GC Chiropractor please be warned. The GCs are not that good at it. http://www.cyprus-mail.com/crime/chiropractor-accused-paralysing-man/20100803 They killed this poor man and worst of all he was one of their own kind, and all he went in for is a bit physiotherapy. If you need anything more involed may god hel you once you are in their hands.

YFred To be fair you could trawl the archives and dig up horror medical stories from any country in the developed world. I had to be treated at a hospital in the South a couple of years ago and can only speak very highly of the treatment that I received. Wards were immaculate, well equipped and the nurses very attentive. I didn't even need to take my own blood !! Paul

Paul, you have not lived in Cyprus between 63 and 74 hence you cannot appreciate the real value of my posts. My GC cousins living in the southern lands do and for some reason they love me to death.

YFred I was only born in late 63 so maybe i don't appreciate the value of your posts. That said, (and please don't take this the wrong way) I see an intelligent individual bringing himself down to the level of those who post on a particular forum in the South. I think that you are better than that With respect Paul

Please don't take this wrong. Years of communication have taught me that if you post something for the benefit of low IQ fatherless fascistaky Greek Cypriots living in the southern parts, you have to communicate at their level otherwise it goes over the head. We have to give them a chance to at understand their world and hopefully cope it.

YFred - the man who died on Friday evening was my uncle and I don't appreciate you using this tragic situation as a platform for to put across your political views. In addition, you have the facts wrong. I would greatly appreciate if you could remove your post - I'm sure you can understand that if other members of my family see this it is likely to prove very upsetting.

Tracer, you were not there to hear the sounds of the bullets coming from the church on the hilltop remember it like yesterday. You don't forget bullets going over you head. Have you been used as target practice by anytime? I have never been to a GC hospital, unfortunately I am from Gengis Han's gene pool mixed with a bit of Venetian. The cousins I was referring to were not real cousins? You really must try to get into the spirit of what is going on here. And you are failing miserably, If I may say so.
