yes great isnt it here we are doing our bit for tourism and what do the government do !!!! typical

they obviousley do not want amazing acts in cyprus... what a joke

how can a band on tour apply for a work permit at every single gig they play

they wouldnt have room in their vehicles for the equipment it would be so full of paperwork

lets all just give up whats the point with this lot breathing down our necks

parklanecyp,

you are soooo wrong.

I speak from experıence. Paid or unpaid.....they take it as work.

Tell your acts to be careful.

parklanecyp. It doesn`t necessarily have to be a cash payment, a meal and a drink is considered payment.

Do they even need to be paid? Just because you do it for nothing 'they' could argue that you are stopping a TRNC citizen, who does want payment, from getting the work by undercutting their normal fee....

E.G. The venues wishing to have entertainment would need to employ paid entertainers if those offering their services for free were eradicated from the equation.

Turkish music and Western music are 'poles apart'!

Which type of music do expats and tourists prefer after they've listened to Turkish music a coupla three times?

Listening to third rate renditions of Western music by TC musicians, personally, is NOT my scene!

Unless I'm very much mistaken [perhaps I am!], there aren't enough local bands/groups available to satisfy the demand of the bars and restaurants, anyway.

Why does this government seem determined, in the name of 'protectionism', to further alienate expats and tourists, alike, any more than they've had a guts-full of already?

This isnt new, there was a purge a couple of years ago when entertainers were warned and some were fined, there was somebody that went over to play in the ROC because of it as i recall, they should have a way of letting acts register so they can play legit, trouble is too many of em would cheat and not pay their proper dues, human nature i suppose :(

It is time the people in charge of the TRNC economy, realised the expats who live here take buggar all out of it, because 90 percent of us are retired. Therefore only spending our money, plus reletives and friends that come out are also spending their money too, they seem to be doing their best to make peoples plans to live a quiet and peaceful retirement,in to an obstical course throwing petty rules and laws what seem to be targeted at us.So what if Joe Bloggs is taking a few lira a night singing or whatever, he and is like are encoureging us to go and eat and drink at a restaurant or bar hopefully helping the owners of these places to keep their heads above water
