| @ AlsancakJack .. The cajón is the most widely used Afro-Peruvian musical instrument since the late eighteenth century.[1] Slaves of West and Central African origin in the Americas, specifically Peru, are considered to be the source of the cajón drum; though the instrument is common in musical performance throughout the Americas. In Cuba, in the twentieth century the cajón is associated with the Afro-Cuban drum/song/dance style known as rumba, while in Peru it is associated with several Afro-Peruvian genres. | AJ I saw the Cajón being played at Salamis by one of the musicians with Al Di Meola a while back... Man sitting on a box... I thought, 'what's that' and then I was blown away by the versatility of it. He made it sound like a full drum kit... quite amazing. |

| http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BGaOj10vjG0&feature=related Here's an example for those who don't know what a Cajón is... Rony Barrak is one of the worlds greatest darbouka (middle eastern tabla) players and you should see him if you ever get the chance... He's from Lebanon so not far away! Maybe some venue could get him over... |
