The road from Yesilirmak through to Kato Pygos is brand new, and of a very good quality. From there, the roads are still reasonable, and some effort has been made to improve them because of the expected increase in traffic.

You have to divert round Erinkoy into the mountains, so can be a bit twisty turney for this section. (Don't worry about map reading. It's the only road that's available!) I didn't do the journey all the way from Kato Pyrgos to Paphos, but the section to Polis was 50Km and took 45 minutes

There are various places you could stop along the way. There are coffee shops/restaurants at Kato Pyrgos, and Pomos, and Polis is a small town to be explored.

As you go over the mountain, you get a good view down to Erinkoy, which seems to be just a cluster of buildings and a couple of helipads.

Why do many people call Paphos "pathos"! Sounds like one of the three musketeers! (joking - no offence meant)

From where you are, I would think you have the fastest route already. Kyrenia to Polis was just on 3 hours, though you could save 20 minutes by using the Nicosia/Guzelyurt dual carriageway. So I would think Paphos would be another 30 minutes.

A longer route, but certainly more scenic, and with plenty of opportunities to stop along the way.

It was always called Pathos in the UK when I was a youngster and the travel agents called it that too. Twas the destination for my first trip to Cyprus way back then.

So how does one find it on the map and get to "Pathos" then?

BigOz

Pathos is on the south western corner of the island about 60 mins from Larnaca, 90 mins from Lefkosa.

Built up holiday town with more ex pats than the whole of TRNC.

'Paphos' or even 'Pafos' - the transliteration - but please not 'Pathos'!

Clarissa2,

Pathos? Patheticos may be! at least make it sound like Greek. Otherwise my GC cousins down south of the border get very upset about our careless insinuation that Cyprus is not Greek.

Baf is also known for its chewing gum (Baf sakızı)

breezyboy;

I was only kidding mate! My whole family is from PAPHOS and I spent all my holidays in the surrounding villages when I was a very young boy. But it has never ever been called Pathos(!). It is Baf (in Turkish) or Paphos...
