The cooperation between the TRNC and EU is not all doom and gloom. A fine result can be seen in the heart of the Northern part of Nicosia's Walled City, next to the Selimiye Mosque (the former Roman Catholic, Lusignan built St Sophia Cathedral), where superior craftsmen from Western Europe restored The Bedestan in its old glory. I've uploaded Part 1: The building known as the Bedestan or Bedesten to (Cypriot) Turks - i.e. an Exchange or Market - is the Greek Orthodox Metropolis of the Venetian period in Nicosia. But there are several versions of the history of this landmark, also known as "St Nicholas Church of the English" and some - including me - doubt this often repeated part of its history... ▶ http://is.gd/gctxf _____________________________________ Think different (the best ever Apple slogan)

▶ I should have mentioned in message 1 that the photographs in the Photobook, attached to the first webpage, were taken before 2005 (the year the actual restoration started).

I hadn't had a chance to visit the finished product till about a month ago. I have to say the different architectural styles have blended nicely. I also liked the small sections of original floor left exposed when the new wooden floor was put down.

Re : Msg1, Thanks for the info. Very interesting. Got entangled into versions of the history of St. Nicholas. Nice to see the results of the restoration works: last time I visited it was all covered in scaffolding. Looking forward to my next visit.
