I work, they pay me. I pay my taxes and the government distributes my taxes as it sees fit. In order to earn that pay cheque, I work on a rig for a drilling contractor. I am required to pass a random urine test for drugs and alcohol, with which I have no problem. What I do have a problem with is the distribution of my taxes to people who don't have to pass a urine test. Shouldn't one have to pass a urine test to get a benefits cheque - because I have to pass one to earn it for them? Please understand that I have no problem with helping people get back on their feet. I do, on the other hand, have a problem with helping someone to sit on their arse drinking beer and smoking dope. Could you imagine how much money the government would save if people had to pass a urine test to get a benefit cheque? Well do you agree with these sentiments

Agree totally, the current system only ecourages people to work at claiming benefits rather than work at finding a job. Personally I think we need an American style workfare system.

Heartily agree with message one......I would go one further, all baby girls are fitted with a valve at birth .this can only be removed once they are over 21, married, and can proove they have funds to keep themselves and that they are responsible to start a family without depending on any handouts from the government. Benefits can then be used for people that need them, ie disabled, sick etc.....

And all baby boys are made to keep their equipment under control until they are 21, married and able to act in a responsible manner. It takes two to tango.

I agree totally. The problem as I see it, is not the person who wants to be a sponger but the person who lets trhem become one..i.e.the person behind the desk in the benefits office..Half of these people are young people with next to no experience of dealing with these people and get so flustered that they just approve the paperwork without really investigating there claim, especially when it comes to "immigrants" consequently once in the system nobody bothers to follow it up...so they get paid every week without even having to show their faces..In the Sun this morning a teacher has been off work for SIX years on full pay and claiming Disability benfits was sacked for telling lies at a hearing. She now is suing the council for unfair dismissal and do not be surprised if she wins. She is of eastern extraction....Leave it to y6ou how you take it....

I know lots of families in the UK that are working and their total income is less than £500 per week, most of the people not working around them are getting £600 or more in various benefits, how the hell can that be fair........

Read the report the other day of the foreigner charged with trying to knife to death a labour MP as he supported the war in Iraq. This person refused to recognise the court. I simply wondered if she recognised a legal aid certificate paid for by taxpayers ?

I would like to know where all this welfare money is at trhe age of 57 having worked continuosly for 41 years I have just had to sign on for the first time ever. It has to be said that I could live without it but I though I have paid in all these years lets see what I am entitled to. Signing in itself was an interesting experience, I had to bring in my passport and driving licence to prove to a admittedly very pleasant you lady dressed in a hijab who obviously did not originate in this country that I was indeed british. At the end of thius experience I was informed that I may be entitled to £65 per week jobseekers allowance, I will find out in eight weeks time. Because my wife continues to work I am entitled to nothing else. At this stage in life I would be very happy to sponge of the state but unless you are a professional scrounger it aint what its cracked up to be. Incidentally try looking for a job at 57. Cyprus permanently next year.

Welcome to the real world Blackie, and well put, after 22 years serving Queen & country admittedly I get a reasonable pension, but had to put my life on the line in Afgan (2) Iraq (2) Bosnia where I near copped it and these spongers get it all given on a plate, me I would make them do national service, but there would be anarchy in the UK if they tried to bring it back, father told me that national service is compulsary in TRNC and that all the recruits get is 100tl a month can you see the slobs in the UK accepting that ??

When I was in the British Army and I was single and lived in barracks, your food and accommodation was taken from your salary at source so it didnt matter if you blew your salary at the beginning of the month at least you werent going to starve to death. My son has recently joined the army and they have a new system where the lads have to pay for their meals when they eat them, unfortunately some of them still blow their salary at the beginning of the month and consequently have no money for food, they call them the pot noodle army and some of the lads are malnourished because of their diet. Also they are using civilian contractors who are not fit to lick the boots of the Army Catering Corps. What the hell this has to do with the welfare system i dont know but I enjoy a good rant as much as the next guy

Johndp. I totally agree, bring in national service. Bless, I am sick and tired of these government ministers telling me that I cannot collect my pension until I'm 62. Most of them were in nappies when I was working and paying my National insurance contributions. What a cheek. I actually know of a family in Uk, that have never had a 'proper' job, have five children and two council homes, one is sub let. How can they get away with this kind of scam? I can't get my head around all this social pay malarky. If your daughter gets pregnant, it's your problem (the parents), not the government, not the taxpayers. If your child can't get a job, it's up to the parents to provide for it, not the governments , or ours. I'm beginning to sound like my mum, but in 'the good old days' people, families, had a thing called pride, my opinion is, pride has gone totally out of the window. If a child can't find work, bring back conscription, make them work for their money.

I often wonder that those of us living here permanently moved back to UK, and tried to claim state benefits and free housing how we would get on.

If you move back to the UK permanently Jarpad you will be entitled to free NHS care if 1. You have a British passport and you can prove you have sold property abroad or have applied for benefits or can show the authorities you are shipping your goods back to the UK. Chris

I am afraid you have to look at the whole thing at a much bigger scale than the isolated issue! This whole thing about unfair housing and claims is all about "political correctness gone mad" in UK. It was there back in 80s and it is still there! As for forigners moving in and claiming property tp live in ans benefits - that is even a bigger farce; because of your politicians persistent interest in other countries' internal affairs. Something true also for France, and other European countries...
