I am surprised that a lot of the vocal members of this board (about animal welfare) have not replied.

I would have loved to help out but have just had to stop helping out in your office and charity shop as my predicament now means i need paid work. Good luck with your search though.

With the amount of stray Dogs and cats on the street you must be having a laugh. every day you can see hapless animals looking for someone to love them...We came to TRNC with our cat ,now we have 12 cats and 2 Dogs,All neutered and spayed at our own expense ,NON of which we wanted, but will not see them go hungry.we have lost count of the number of other animals we have helped/re-homed.KAR do a very good job but it is ineffectual given the ever increasing cases of animal neglect on this Island,,.. I am afraid they are trying to stop the tide with NO hope of success ............... Containing Animals in a compound is one thing, making a difference in peoples attitude to animals is quite another............

You obviously know nothing about their school education program.

Hey,Animal lovers,

I don`t think so.

But hey, the cancer trust have the same problems with regards to volunteers.

It seems to be a case of I`m alright jack

If you want to help do so.

If you want to be critical,be so .but only from the high ground

msg9 AJ ....I am well aware of the school education program, trouble is, that it will (with any luck) only take effect in the future . meanwhile animals cast out on the street have to wait until the children hopefully grow up and take over...FINE, but what happens now to the ever increasing number of strays? Kindly do not surmise that you are the only informed person on the forum...................

Rob

I have already seen a change in children's perception of animals and I now see local kids taking their dogs out for walks on leads and also what is happening is that cats are now being respected rather than being treated as vermin. As far as stray dogs are concerned there are certainly less around now than when I first came out here but cats are still a problem. I am hoping that the respect that children have for their family 'pets' will ultimately filter up to their elders.

Anyway let us keep this thread on topic as there is also another active thread where we can discuss the animal situation in the TRNC.

So any volunteers for KAR?

Sorry A J.....Too busy looking after the ones KAR can't or won't deal with. Abandoned dogs and cats seems endless and I can no longer afford to donate to KAR AND PAY for food, flea/worm treatments etc for these strays. Every morning and evening is spent feeding unwanted animals discarded here like rubbish! So no time to work for KAR as well.

"ever growing centre"

Yes, tomorrow there will be an increase!

KAR have agreed to take 7 little puppies that I am taking to their office tomorrow morning and also have the stray mum on the list to be spayed.

Am I grateful? Yes.

Will I make a donation? Yes.

7 puppies will need worming, de-fleaing and injections...plus feeding.

Mum's operation has to be paid for and it hasn't helped that the government have just advised that vet's are to put their fee's up again.

Hubby and I empty 11 of the KAR charity boxes and it has become noticeable over the last 2 years the boxes do not raise as much in much needed funding as they used to.

Whether you agree with the policies or not, it is the animals that need your help.

Please, please put some coins in a box or you could donate a packet/tin of food in the boxes that are located at the supermarkets.

Or if you can give a little bit of your time to help out at the centre as requested.

Well, 7 little puppies went to KAR and only 6 were left there!!

For some reason my hubby said the "yes" word and one 7 week old little girl now called Candy came home with us.

Donation was made to KAR.

A trip to the vet.....110TL poorer but this little girl was worth it.

She now joins 2 other dog's, 4 cats and a cockatiel.

Now fast asleep on hubby's lap after a very long day.
