Yes, it will use some of your allowance, the speak on skype is converted to data to be sent (na of course adat is received as sound) so it uses some of your Mb's up.

I understand that it will use up your allowance if you are speaking or receiving sound, but will it use anything just beeing connected until you get a call. The idea is to leave the laptop on conected to the internet with only skype online, similar to having a landline if you like.

yes it will but it's minimal............if this is really important to you then click on 'statistics' on the mobile partner interface..........top left hand corner you will see 'Transfer' , RIGHT click on this and from the drop down list select ' Reset Statistics ' , then connect your skype and you can see how much it is using (or not as the case may be)

From the Skype website: On average Skype uses 0-0.5 kilobytes/sec while idle. This is used mainly for contact presence updates. The exact bandwidth depends on many factors. https://support.skype.com/faq/FA152/How-much-bandwidth-does-Skype-use-when-there-are-no-active-calls;jsessionid=C3E6213D90326FAD1B87B46DE44C09B9;jsessionid=9DD5560B0371AF3B844C8843BB69B5EA?frompage=search&q=skaype+banwidth&fromSearchFirstPage=false
