Hello, We are new to your board and want to say a massive thanks for all the information we have read over the last few months. We are thinking of buying a villa in Karsiyaka and have heard there are water and electricity cuts on a very regular basis. Whilst we expect some we wouldn't want it to be real problem and would welcome feedback. Thanks

Water is not available all the time in most of the places in North Cyprus. It is turned on on a rota basis. Properties usually have storage tanks, 2 ton storage and 1 ton usually on the roof this should be enough for 2 people for a couple of weeks. (we use approx 8 tons per month). Some properties have underground storage we have a 10 ton one. Electricity cuts happen occasionally sometimes the whole of the north is of too. You get used to that, maybe even having a generator for this time. We have had more than usual this last couple of months, excuses we have heard have ben for servicing!!! I live in Karsiyaka and we have only had 1 in the last week. they do vary in length 20 mins, to a few hours. A suggestion for you is to make sure that ll the big electrical stuff is connected via surge protectors. some folk go the the expense of having voltage regulators - our electric on the island does vary........... Good Luck - my bungalow is up for sale

I live in Karsiyaka - we get Power cuts on occassions but they are not normally that long and you can go weeks without having any at all. Most of the time is doesn't affect you, but we do have a back up Genny for those rainy winter nights when we want to curl up watching a DVD and it might go off for an hour! Water is excellent and we haven't run out once since we moved to Karsiyaka. Good luck - hope you love Karsiyaka as much as we do G

Welcome to Karsiyaka. As above a few power cuts but not to bad or long. Water has been on permanently for the past week or so.

We recently moved to Karsiyaka and yes, we do have the occasional electricity cut but so do the rest of the TRNC - this is Cyprus!! We bought a gas lamp and together with torches we are now prepared (but we've had none since, am I tempting fate!) We've always had a good supply of water (fingers crossed for rain this winter). The weather's beautiful and we're glad we're here.
