In what context? Personally I don't like it, especially when I hear children swearing or parents in front of children. It's impact has been devalued and it's simply naff. I may think it but try never to use it. How's that?

I wonder why people do use bad language .... and why are the words used sometimes thought of as offensive?

What would happen if we all suddenly started using the words like ... 'soft fluffly kitten'

for example .... get out of my face you soft fluffy kitten! not quite the same I know, but why does words like F*** and C*** offend so much?

The F and C words do not offend me in the slightest. Perhaps because my boyfriend (chartered accountant) and I (gallery owner background law) are from the East End where swear words are naturally used in conversation. I sometimes watch EastEnders and think 'This is not right, surely Phil or Peggy would love to put the odd swear word in' Perhaps the BBC could have a late night EastEnders!!!

swear words are generally for people with very poor vocabulary skills. These individuals are are unable to think of an appropriate word to replace the offensive terms. They probably learnt these skills from parents with the same problem. Some football supporters suffer from this inadequacy which deters the more intelligent from taking their children to the matches. Swearing in public, on radio tv or email or any medium is unacceptable.

rocky,

I couldn't agree more. Here's what "Apollo" has just said on another thread: "Your full of crap and you are a RACIST!"

Some people never knew their parents so maybe we should feel sorry for them.

Jakki.

As an eastender born and bred I do not agre e that swearing comes naturally in conversation. The C word is the filthist word ever used.

My Husband (a retired builder) also born in the East End.

One thing Eastenders dont do is Brag.

the topics for discussion on this site are unbelievable - 'bad language' how bored are you!!!

swearing is everywhere, and it will always be heard by you and your children - there isn't much you can do about it - so just deal with it!

as for people swearing in a bar (referring to the kings bar bashing session from another discussion)- if you don't like it don't go. and if its a case of your young children are there and being subjected to it - then really, lets be honest, they shouldn't be there - holiday or not - its a bar, they sell alcohol, people get drunk! you know this already - but you take your kids there!

who's in the wrong?

if you are good teachers to your kids and they respect you then hearing this language shouldn't make a blind bit of difference to them, if you taught them to think for themselves and understand swearing actually makes them look pathetic and insignificant then they will respect that and you as parents and continue to only swear behind your backs!!

What would be useful is if someone could post 10 Turkish swear words or phrases for use when dealing with Advocates, Builders, Government Dept's etc.

People normally resort to using Foul language because they are ignorant of the English language.

I would guess that 99% of the posters here have sworn at sime time or another, including myself. However I would not swear in front of my grandchildren and I never swore in front of my children.

I don't like people swearing for no reason. For example, I was talking to someone the other day and he was telling me about his journey to work that morning. From memory it went something like this.

"I was driving along when this f****ing stupid c**t pulled out of a f***ing side turning without even f***ing looking. What a t***er. I f***ing tooted at him and gave him the w***er sign. F***ing stupid c**t.

Now in my opinion the use of bad language here is totally irrelevant. However for some people it's a way of expressing themselves. I don't look down on these people neither would I treat them any different to anyone else.(and besides that he is a good client).

I may just be old fashioned and I'm no goody two shoes and I don't go to church, but I for one do find swearing offensive, particularly in mixed company - why ? because it is unnecessary, that's why.

sugarnuts..spot on..if there is bad language and you dont want your kids to hear it,leave. Its the same if its on the telly, you can always change channels or switch off, nobody is forcing you to listen to it.You might think I agree with pro bad language brigade...I do not...but you do have alternatives.Mind you if you listen to the kids of today they are worse than most adults,I am affraid it is a sign of the times and not alot we can do about it.

hi spud 1...My answer was meant for those who gointo a"bar",didnt know there was meals involved.I assume then that this bar didnt have a seperate eating area.Like you say spud, does make things a tad more difficult.Did you ask the people concerned if they could moderate ther language or even bring it to the attention of the owners. If you did either or both and got no response I assume it is now on your places "not to go to " cos it would be on mine if it was me .
