After seeing the post on the “Three massive Greek Hotels”, I’ve been looking out for further details! The development is the Kaya Artemis Resort and Casino, which is a ‘reconstruction’ of the Artemis Temple at Ephesus, though what the goddess would have made of filling her sanctuary with 726 guest rooms is open to debate! Yes, it will boost tourism, but it could look incredibly tacky! Judge for yourself: this is the resort web site, http://www.kayatourism.com.tr/en/oteller/kaya_artemis/default.aspx and this is a site which has pictures of the temple as it might have originally looked http://www.kusadasi.biz/historical-places/temple-of-artemis.html.

Oh, don’t be such a killjoy, kyreniachap! It looks fun! This can only help boost tourism to North Cyprus. OK, it’s big, and I don’t think we really need another casino, but if it brings new visitors to TRNC, then I’m in favour of it. Also, think of the jobs it will create for TRNC’s youth (gosh I feel old typing that!). Personally, I’m looking forward to the spa facilities… One point: how do they work out a 2,500 bed capacity with only 726 rooms? That’s an average of 3.44 beds a room – cosy!

Sungoddess, I do hope they will open the spa facilities to TRNC residents… I’m just dying to know exactly what a ‘snow room’ is, as listed in their spa facilities list!

Just found an interview with the developer, Burak Kaya, who said “My main target is Israeli tourists. They usually do not trust the casinos in Cyprus. … Last month we received an offer from a tourism agency in Israel. They said they want to send 40, 000 Israelis in the summer of 2007. We made all of the necessary agreements and deals. Just when we thought everything was going perfect, the Greeks ruined our plans by saying "We do not allow you to use our airport for your international guests." Now, we are planning to bring Israeli tourists via the Antalya Airport." Antalya airport?? Are they expected to swim the last bit?! Pity the focus is so heavily on casino trade: there is a lot more to TRNC that swimming pools and roulette wheels…

Well, if the casino repays the investment, it at least has brought a five star resort to TRNC. I just hope they don’t build one too near us! Help, I'm turning into a NIMBY (Not In My Back Yard) - argh! :0
