We are visiting Istanbul in September 2011. My wifes passport runs out in March 2012. Am I right in thinking you need at least 6 months on your passport to enter Turkey? Any advice will be appreciated. Thanks Bob

if you are EU citizen you can stay for 3 months, if you are russian 1 month, so there should not be a problem

woodspeckie, you are wrong as when they leave arrive in istanbul they will have around 6 months left in the passport, and after 90 days there is 3 months left. I have lived in Turkey for 14 years and I have never heard anything about 6 months rule. The only time the 6 month rule is valid when you apply for residence permit in Turkey

Quote from first choice travel "It is highly recommended that passports have at least six months validity remaining after your intended date of departure from your travel destination. Immigration officials often apply different rules to those stated by travel agents and official sources". Personally I would not travel anywhere with less than 6 months left on a passport.

me-style. why am I wrong there is a rule that says 6 months and I understand they have six months (depending on dates though). http://www.turkeytravelplanner.com Be sure your passport is valid for at least 90 days from the expiration date of your anticipated visa period or you may not be admitted, so if you have a 90 day visa be sure your passport is valid for at least 180 days beyond the date you anticipate entering Turkey. I have visited Turkey for 35 holidays and I am always asked when booking if I have 6 months on my passport.

>>Entry Requirements - Passport validty Your passport should be valid for at least six months on entry into Turkey and have at least three months validity from the date you are exiting Turkey. If you hold a Travel Document it must be valid for at least one year on entry into Turkey. << From the UK Foreign and Commonwealth website http://www.fco.gov.uk/en/travel-and-living-abroad/travel-advice-by-country/europe/turkey
