The appointment of Akça to replace Kaya Türkmen is considered a sign that the Turkish government plans to continue tight fiscal policies that provoked demonstrations on the island, and subsequent tension between Ankara and the Turkish Cypriot administration. Ankara has appointed a figure who is highly questioned on the island. Ankaras attitude seems like a punishment of northern Cyprus.
