Go south for a better deal my friend. Over there you will find the items in the window and shop have prices on them. On this side NO prices are displayed and they delight in putting the items on scales and then coming up with a price after giving you the once over to check how much they think they can get away with! they then come up with the usual old spiel ' I can give you a discount of zyz etc'

I always come out feeling I have just been ripped off!

Be careful here as they do not hallmark the jewellery. Bought what was supposed to be platinium and it all rubbed off leaving yellow gold underneath x

I have bought several pieces and am getting my fiance's wedding ring from Senak jewelers. He does have prices on his rings. To find him, about halfway round the harbour is a cobbled street going up to the mosque, he is up there on the right. He supplies Selfridges with Jewelery.

I have always bought my jewellery from Mehmet (tash as in messgae 6)..never had a problem at all, always a bargain compared to Uk prices...

he has made things for me in the past to my design and also has unusual bits in the shop also...

my recommendation goes to Mehmet at Tash

He has shown me an advert in a magazine. He doesn't hallmark as it would be worthless in UK. He will give a certificate for insurance purposes. I had some gold earrings that I bought from him, assayed in England and they were hallmarked at 18 carat, which is exactly what he told me it was. An English jeweler valued them at over twice what I paid. The diamond solitaire I have just bought is over double in Ernest Jones for the same size diamond but lesser quality.

Check out the price for gold on the day you are buying, check the weight of the gold when it is weighed and you know the price from there. Although the gold isn't hallmarked if you come to sell it the jeweller checks it, I have lots of gold I bought in Turkey 14carat, just sold some I paid approx £800 for got £1,700 for it here in UK

I second the recommendation for Huseyin at Senak. We have had several good items from him, and the same experience for a valuation in UK.

If you buy in TRNC, you can have it hallmarked in UK if you wish.

We wanted plain platinum wedding bands when we got married several years ago. It was impossible to find them any where (you couldnt get paltinum any where at all then) but no-one had just plain bands. Went to Erdal and they made us White Gold bands, exactly what we asked for and they were very reasonable too.

I can also reccomend Senak as have bought several very nice pieces there. He is also a proper diamiond dealer, knows what he is talking about. Was planning to open a branch at Bluewater in Kent -not sure if that transpired or not maybe due to recession.
