If so where in the North do you live?

We like Bellapais but know its expensive.

Sorry for going on, we would just like an idea as our family lives in Nicosia and i dont fancy living there.

Personally I would look at Bellapais, Catalkoy, Ozankoy to be near the school, just makes life easier. We have a daughter at ESK and we are in Lapta - it is about a 30 min journey each way with traffic. I would also choose seaside, it's warmer, high mountain villages are lovely but cold in winter. Good luck with your move.

Have not heard any complaints from any people I know who have children at ESK. Seems to be all good at the moment.

As to living - quite understand Nicosia seems a way away. Why not live in Girne itself if you want a town situation. Think of the travelling expenses you will save and yet still be in the centre of a town. Depends on the type of accommodation you want, but rents do not seem much more expensive than out at Catalkoy etc.

And why not follow your heart? That is often the best guide. Or for some people it is the stomach.

Nicky, is your husband Cypriot and do you want your children to speak Turkish?

Hi Nicky

ESK would probably be the best choice then, the majority of the children in early years are Turkish Cypriot. The education is in English with Turkish speaking classroom assistants. Actual Turkish lessons start in year 2, but most of the playground banter is in Turkish from what I hear from my daughter. We had some issues at first as she was frustrated she could not communicate with her classmates as she does not speak Turkish but these seem to have blown over as each learns the others language informally. She is happy and progressing well.

If you wanted an English " village school" environment, Miss Judy's cannot be beaten for early years - in my opinion, although the children have to leave at 6 years old. Friends have children in some of the local private nurseries and are very happy with their progress in Turkish and English.

Good luck whatever you choose, email me if you wish:melaniepartington@hotmail.com

Hi Nicky

You may also like to visit the British Academy of Northern Cyprus at Alsansak. This is a friendly school which takes children from 3 right through to 16 years and teaches the English National Curriculum with both English and Turkish staff availalbe to help your child. Property rental prices may be cheaper in Alsansak and Lapta. A bus service is available to and from school and fees are cheaper than ESK.

Alternatively look at the website http://www.britishacademy-cyprus.com

Pogle, the wonderful thing about living up the hill away from the coastal areas is... it's cooler in summer and cold air rushes down the hills to seaside in winter where there is no where lower for it to go....

That's why the locals live up the hills... that and avoiding the marauding hoards!
