get a local chip tukcell that way when they call you they only pay, you need an open phone so any chip will work in north cyprus, bear in mind the chip wont work if not used over six months but i have noticed it does after 7 months.you can also buy a cheap phone for aound £30 from a chinese shop here in the Uk already open then you can when in north cyprus but a tukcell from any shop and use the phone as a second spare and keep your o2 too

I have always found the cheapest option is to borrow someone else's phone.

9 times out of 10 always cheaper to buy a LOCAL sim and use it to call to the UK.. incoming calls COST big as 'TRNC' is not rated as EU for the purposes of capping EU roaming rates :(

Ask folk to txt you while away and turn off your answerphone servce on your UK mobile phone while away...

You'll need a mobile that isn't locked - to a particular UK network - then ANY sim will work .. if in doubt try your UK phone with another provider's SIM card and see what happens !

Go Sim 'Pay as You Go' at 24p a minute either way, and which does not have time expiry date. You'll need an unlocked phone.

Hi cypgab

Sorry to be 'tick'..

Where do you get the 24/p minute figure from, please? .. I can only see rates of 18/p for TR or the 'rump' RoC

At those prices it is still MUCH cheaper to get a 'rump' RoC pay as you go sim - if you are in the Bogaz area - or in an area that can pick up a 'rump' RoC signal..calls to a UK landline are c.10 euro cents/ min

I'm guessing if your phone can use 3gdata you can use SKYPE credit to call the uk, too ..

NOTE.. NEVER, EVER use international data roaming - have it turned off by your provider

I pay £9.50 every 3 months to get unlimited calls to UK landlines with no time limits on my skype. I find this the best value!

Buy a local SIM card, then get people to call you from a UK landline using Discount Dial.

Dial 08443205050 and follow the instructions, calls cost 2.5 pence per minute, have not found a cheaper way yet (Skype is inpractical if you are just on holiday)

From my computer, I use *VOip 12 to call Australia, New Zealand & UK - it's FREE to their landline telephones. I pay my agent €10 for every 3 months usage, but your credit can accumulate provided you haven't called a mobile phone.

The connection fee on VOip 12 to any mobile is €0.39 and a 'nurth' of a cent per minute.

*You can download it yourself and pay online.

If I'm wrong about any of the above info. - please correct me!
