Very serious. Some time ago a Welsh pensioner mistakenly bought bulbs thinking they were onions and used them with steak for dinner. Regrettably he died.

RE msg 12, deputydawg: (...) Some time ago a Welsh pensioner mistakenly bought bulbs thinking they were onions and used them with steak for dinner. Regrettably he died. (...) ▶ Nonsense. My parents - and millions of other Dutchmen - had to eat tulip bulbs during the notorious "hunger winter" of 1944-45 (the Second World War). If you knew how to prepare them, you could survive a couple of weeks on them. Unless you ate the tulip bulbs every day. But thousands of Dutchmen couldn't eat them every day, because they didn't have them. So they died of another reason. "Jokes" about this subject are not really appreciated.

DC. I suppose it was inevitable that after a year of avoiding your intolerence and vitriolic it was inevitable that you would get on my case. When will you accept that you do not know everything. You are the annoying joke not my post. The Welshman ate Daffodil bulbs which are highly toxic and have caused numerous accidental deaths over the years so why is it wrong to warn others of that ? As you so rudely say to others "research the net", before you pass judgment.

Maybe Mr DC would like to read this then apolgise? "Lycorine is a toxic crystalline alkaloid found in several plant species, such as the bush lily (Clivia miniata), Lycoris, and Narcissus. It may be highly poisonous, if not lethal, when ingested in certain quantities. Symptoms of lycorine toxicity are vomiting, diarrhea, and convulsions. Regardless, it is sometimes used medicinally, a reason why some groups may harvest the very popular Clivia miniata. It inhibits protein synthesis, and may inhibit ascorbic acid biosynthesis, although studies on the latter are controversial and inconclusive. Presently, it serves some interest in the study of certain yeasts, the principal organism on which lycorine is tested. Lycorine is also found in daffodil bulbs which are often confused with onions, thereby leading to incidents of accidental poisoning." From Wiki

This is a joke thread (unfortunately the originator did not designate it as such so it has been done for him/her). If you all want to start arguing again then do it somewhere else. Preferably not on this board. Everyone just lighten up.

DC,I didnt think you would appreciate the joke, not because of the subject but because you dislike any joke being put on C44 and would like to see them all banned. But,they are allowed and if mine was deemed offensive,im sure it wouldnt of been allowed. It made a few people smile and thats good enough for me,plus, there is a warning in there, that people should be careful what they eat from their garden as daffodil bulbs,if eaten, can be lethal. PS Deniz1,i hope you're ok now
