Depends if lawyers instead of the government are now being allowed to create laws as it suits them.

I'm sure it is not illegal for the government to take photos without permission but is this illegal for individuals to take a photo of, for example, police at a demonstration filming demonstrators? What if it is not illegal and you are arrested and the images deleted. Of course you can waste money on a personal prosecution but are the police forced to apologise at the very least or are they allowed to break the law with impunity?

Seems you taking photos of them whilst they are taking photos of you is a stalemate, except if you are reported doing it and they want to prosecute, the police here will accommodate them, but if you want to prosecute, your statement will not be taken. All are equal under the law, just some are more equal than others.......................... TRNC government should take a look at The Universal Declaration of Human Rights sometime.................... oh I fogot, they only want Human Rights not give them.

It is not allowed to take photos in the vicinity of the military territories and demarcation line. Before taking pictures in a museum ask for permission. It is also prohibited to take photos in some North Cyprus monasteries.(copied and pasted) hooter;Do you not envy that sometimes that it'd be the same in uk? Wrong or wright, thats another story!

Polly, apart from Yorg's exceptions I think you can safely say that there is nothing in the TRNC law books that explicitly say you cannot take a photo of someone BUT if an individual with power and influence wants to insist that the police do as they say, illegal or otherwise, then many police seem to be too afraid or legally uneducated, to refuse.

if you take photos of people wthout their permission, and you upload the internet, after that people who is on the picture if say "delete it", you have to delete. otherwise this is not a problem. an other thing, if he/she looking your camera directly, this is not any problem

It is illegal here if the photo is taken on or of a person on a pirvate property, if the person is in public then there is nothing they can do. Had to check this out a few years ago and that was what our lawyer found for us. So I would guess as the Bank says it is their proprety, then the person who taking the photo was bracking the law by taking a photo of a private property. Don't agree with it, but just letting you know that yes there is a Law. Angela

You see photos of Fergie toe sucking. We saw all the photos taken of Princess Diana, we see the press taking photos of celebrities in compromising situations and plaster them all over the tabloids. What you dont see is court action taken against them even thought these victims can afford the legal action, why? I do not believe it is illegal. I know it is illegal to show then faces of minors without the parental consent. I believe the law is made up to fit the crime here, but in essence does not exist. THe Bank were taking pictures of the residents without their consent.

Msg 16: "I know of someone who likes taking photos of pretty barmaids, (without their knowledge) particularly when they are bending over...is this illegal? Surely this is illegal?" Depending on the evidence and court's view it could be seen as a sexually aggravated breach of the peace, resulting in a fine and a placing on the sex offenders register. I'd suggest your buddy tries some "one-handed net surfing" rather than risk being branded a perve.
