I came home this afternoon to find half of my garden uprooted but even more devastating was that my grand-daughters budgie cage had been knocked over and her 2 budgies had flown away.I am sure that they will be impossible to find, but if anyone does find them please contact me on 0533 8646120.Thank you all very much.

Thank you for your kind words Sam,she is absolutely distraught and so tonight has decided to move them all indoors just incase something happens during the night so we are now sitting in the lounge with all 4 dogs, her 15 tortoises and her cockatiels.I doubt that the budgies will be able to survive in the wild but hopefully they may even be close by and they may return.

Tatum,we live in Lapta hillside area not far from Sunset Beach.I have checked cage today and nothing.I thought maybe they may have stayed in the lemon trees but have checked all trees and could not see any sign of them.Thank you all for your help and concern,I think it is unlikely we will find them, still we will keep hoping.

Climate wise, Cyprus is fairly similar to Perth [Western Australia], where 'Budgies' are native to and congregate in 'swarms' - they survive despite numerous predators. Whether the 'feral awareness character' has been bred out of domestic stock is debatable. The two predators I would suspect your 'babies' are most vulnerable to would be the little 'Kops' owl and the 'Lady Eleanora' falcon - similar to the European 'Sparrowhawk'. Apparently, and according to past reports, most previously cage-reared birds that escape, unfortunately, fall victim to these and, occasionally, Magpies and cats. However, let's be hopeful - there are also numerous reports of escaped 'Budgies' surviving for years around peoples' homes!

In London on the embankment, by the River Thames, is a huge colony of budgies, previously, birds living in cages which have escaped and colonized the embankment trees. There are hundreds of them and they survive very well, even in the English winter, so there are NO problems for their survival in Cyprus.
