2 gunboats cruising west at 5.30pm close to NE coast at Kaplica. Routine manouvers or something else? Only ever seen Sahil Guvenlik before.

I've worked it out!

With all the armed turmoils in the surrounding Countries of Cyprus, the many thousands of well trained, tooled up Turkish troops are getting too bored of their 'jolly' and want a bit of action. They are going to finish off the uncompleted job they left behind in 1974 and take the whole Island!

What can Greece do, they're down to 'junk' bond trading status?!

Richard,

Don't encourage them. The last time the Turkish Navy tried military operations in the south they ended up attacking three of their own ships off Paphos, sinking one, damaging two others and killing 54 sailors.

http://www.slideshare.net/Harvestboss/kocatepe-report-november-2010

That same day Turkish troops managed to kill their own commander, Colonel Karaoglanoglu, with a bazooka (your weapon of choice ) in the porch of a villa near the invasion beachhead at Ayios Yioryos, Kyrenia.

It doesn't inspire much confidence in the professionalism of Turkish forces at war. Perhaps they've improved since, but I wouldn't suggest them "finishing the job" in Cyprus as they may well find themselves up against superior forces from other nations (which uphold international law).

They're probably coming for the 19th May celebrations since they usually have whatever the Turkish equivalent of the Blue Angels/ Red Arrows is do fly-bys and they often have a strong navy presence off the coast of the island, though it does seem a bit early.

Probably Navek, what else have the Turkish Navy got to do here? In summer the Sahil Guvenlik come to Kaplica, park up under the cliff and have a jolly. It's a good job if you can get it eh?
