Went to Karpaz today for the first time for a couple of years. We always look out for the donkeys but today there seemed to be far less and the ones we could see looked in very poor condition. We also saw a dead one.

Is there any organisation who looks out for the donkeys eg a donkey KAR. As an animal lover I was quite upset to see the state they were in.

hi andy's wife , we saw them in may , and lots of them , they looked fine as we took pictures of them , so its quite distressing to hear they're numbers are depleting and their condition is poor in such a short period of time . i don't personally know of any organisation but i'm sure someone posted something about it a while back , chris will know for definate , she will probably respond

regards , simbas

Hi Andy,

I have been to the Karpaz three times now and I have only ever seen one donkey and this was being ridden by an old gentleman. Can anyone tell me where the most likeliest place would be to see them?

Not been up there now for 2 years, but when we did, this time of year, there was loads of them everywhere we went.

So sad to hear report back from andy's wife that they are not in a good state.

we were there last week and saw lots, seemed in good nick. Plenty of droppings around as well. We only really saw numbers within their sanctury area ie after Dipkarpaz. There are plenty around the monastry area.

Hiya,

We go up to the Karpaz a fair bit and I think it is a bit of 'pot luck' as to whether and how many donkeys you see. Some days we have seen loads, with foals and other times, we have seen none... As David said, the best place to see them is around the monastry area and often along the long straight as you get towards Hasan's and Golden Sands beach... Even saw a white donkey along there - very beautiful...

Don't be too disheartened, I suspect there are still plenty out there, somewhere...!!
