A lack of forensic evidence,is the reason that the beatings take place.Time to move on i think,

Surely nobody would be surprised by this?

Confiscating property illegally is apparently part of their repertoire too. Ask 'misunderstood', as is ignoring crimes allegedly committed by a certain bank.

This has been going on for many years and used to the deterent for stopping crime. Now it doesn't seem to be working. I am not saying I agree with it, especially being a retired Prison officer

Can the officials sink any lower in TRNC, anyone who does not feel disgusted by this should seek help immediately.

>>It is the first time that the Turkish Cypriot police, who remain under the command of the Turkish military, have faced any form of external scrutiny.<<

This is the most significant part of the report. The fact that beatings and fit-ups go on is nothing new, considering these uniformed thugs are answerable to no democratic organisation and last of all the people they are supposed to serve and protect.

This shows the TRNC's finest and bravest at their best:

Msg 12,

Keep on topic. Are you saying you don't think the TC police pictured murdering this defenceless man should be brought to justice? Or the uniformed scum who shot dead the unarmed guy on the flagpole?

This is your chance to show the world what kind of man you are.

I think its good that this has been publicised.Hopefully, the people that commited this act will be brought to justice. Its so big and hard to carry out acts like this, behind closed doors (not)

Msg 15

From memory, was it not a Turkish army soldier how shot a drug induced youth who'd climbed a Turkish flagpole setting fire to it, was warned on three occasions to descend but didn't and consequently shot?!

What little you must have learnt about TC's & T's, their flag is sacrosanct.

Sorry to dissapoint you Zoots/Pikey/Campbell, I'm the type of man who tries to be objective and looks at both sides of any story.

Next you'll say that Mladic was set up.

But then he is an ortho and can do no wrong.

Dunno about your memory, Richard. Have you any credible evidence for your claims? The way the rest of the world saw it on live TV was a cold-blooded murder.

"What little you must have learnt about TC's & T's, their flag is sacrosanct."

Try that defence in a court of law rather than defending savages.

Interesting observation, but who are the 'savages' you're refering too? Please name them!

Just about every soldier I served with who experienced civilian police custody in any country in Europe including Germany and Spain, and in particular many Middle East Countries were beaten in police cells. I once processed the transfer of a soldier from military close arrest to a police cell in a UK police station and when he appeared in Court the next morning he had two black eyes and a broken nose. Neither his legal representative nor the Court asked him how and when he had come by his injuries !

Once again a real and serious current issue, abuses by TC police of people in custody and the whole issue of the TC police not being under control of civilan authorites in the TRNC, has been sidelined by discussions of an event 15 years ago. Once again zoots uses this current news story to drag up events from the past and present those in a way that is biased and contains serious factual errors. It is akin to raising bloody sunday in response to nay news story about the UK civilian or military forces. The most blatant 'untruth' from zoots in this case is the claim that the responsible state parties are 'unaswerable' for thier acts. In fact the case of this death was heard by the ECHR who ruled on the matter. Still when you perpetrate the lie that the ECHR does not cover non citizens in the TRNC, then of course ignoring this reality becomes a necessity. The ECHR judgment on this death can be found here and is a better source of information than zoots' [cont]

explotation of this event to persue his own ongoing agenda.

additional info. UN 6 monthly report on UNICYP for the period concerned here

http://www.un.int/cyprus/s19961016.htm

copy of letter by TRNC representative to UH concerning the events here

http://www.mfa.gov.tr/letter-dated-13-august-1996-from-mr_-osman-ertug_-trnc-representative-in-new-york-addressed-to-the-un-secretary-general.en.mfa

Zoots' exploitation of these events is in my view as blatant as it is intetntfully distorting.
