Monarch has broken ranks with other budget airlines and scrapped debit-card surcharges.

The airline is currently undergoing a major rebranding and is making moves to win business from rivals Ryan air and Easyjet. By scrapping charges on debit cards and announcing a flat £10 charge per booking for credit-card payments, Monarch is making a clear move to distance itself from its rivals.

Hopefully the move will prompt more companies to end the practice of using processing fees to boost profits.

I don't think they should charge for using a credit card at all.

How right you are Hector Shops ,Restaurants, fuel stations do not charge!

Yes they are charged by the provider, but banks even charge for receiving cash into business accounts!

It is time all these 'Bolt on's ' were stopped.

Re: Msg 5,

It's what one paid more or less before per ticket, now it is per booking, no matter how many seats.

The charge to the airline is higher on a credit card instead of pence it can be a % of the cost

banks are ripping off as well as airlines/suppliers

But by using a credit card on £100+ purchases you have protection if the supplier /airline goes bust

CC charge to retailer 2% or less.

most flights i would think monarch sell average £100 to £175 .....so really the customer should pay £2 to £3.5

so paying £10 is still overcharging and making profit.

they charge more than enough for baggage as they all do.

top and bottom is flight prices advertised should be the price you pay ,its false missleading advertising and dont how they have not all been fined by advertising standards agency .

The more trade you do the less % you pay as a company, I would guess with Monarch,s turnover the would pay less than 1% in charges from the card company.

What Monarch need to address is hand luggage,......jeeez the trouble it causes on most of their flights some people take the kitchen sink as hand luggage.

45mins delay on our last flight cos they were busy sizing, weighing and generally squabling with passengers about their hand luggage.

What they give with one hand ...they will take with the other.

Abolishing debit card fees is great but no doubt Monarch will add an 'extra' charge onto something else

Turtle. In January on our return to Manchester with Monarch the plane was full of Cypriot students returning to UK, hardly any of them had hold luggage, we were restricted to 10kg but what they brought on was uneblievable 2 or 3 bags plus laptops, we were delayed 1hr while room was found for them, they should have been taken back to checkin and made to pay for hold luggage, they were nowhere to be seen at the carousel in M/c. and the noise level on the plane was horrendous.
