Hi everyone, I will be staying in dogankoy in august and I'm wondering if it's worth bringing my laptop to keep in contact with my daughter. I know a lot of bars in other countries offer free wifi, would this be the case in north cyprus, only last time we were there we spent a fortune on phone calls?!!

Many thanks in advance,

Jane

Some bars, cafes, hotels and beaches here offer wifi connections, some charge and some for free. Also some, probably most, internet cafes would allow you to plug in your own laptop to their network for a small charge per hour.

To be honest most bars dont have the forsight to offer free wifi even though they may have internet connextion, for them to buy a router would be classed as a waste of expenses. No forsight, but not all.

As the guy above says, some have it,some do not, better to buy yourself a dongle while your here or if your staying in a hotel,im sure they could offer you some kind of a connextion while you stay with them either in the lobby or wireless.

There are now some hotspots in and around kyrenia and other villages.

Bars and restaurants offering free wi-fi are obviously thinking ahead - well done.

However, we need somewhere offering wi-fi but in a quieter setting. I've booked flights for my husband to come over for three weeks but he has to work during office hours during week 3 and therefore needs a quieter place than a bar (far too much tempation .....think about what he'd hic end hic typing!).

Are there any hotels offering reasonable priced wi-fi connection in quieter settings???

higgi if you just want easy not too expensive mobile phone calls to UK and your have a mobile that is not 'sim locked' then you can buy a sim card here and 'top up' cards and use that for calls to UK. Not the cheapest way but convient and not too expensive and certainly considerably cheaper than just using your UK sim in TRNC on standard roaming rates

The cost of calls using this to the UK would be

to UK landline 11 units per min

to UK mobile 40 units per min

The current deals with KKTCell to get the sim card and 100 units would be 15 TL

I cant find how much the top up cards would be but sure someone else could say. Basicaly you would then buy more units, in amounts of 100,200 or 400 for given TL prices (which I dont have) I hope that makes some kind of sense

dream diver, if husband needs to work why not just get a dongle for your stay? He can then work in peace and quiet when he needs too.

Higi the Rocks Hotel is in Girne. Exact location can be seen on the map in the link below, its marked on the map near the center of the map, and you can zoom out and scroll around to get an idea of where it is.

http://maps.google.com/maps?hl=en&ll=35.34121,33.315407&spn=0.007124,0.012735&t=h&z=17

As for the price might be easier to just ring them and ask directly, if they have wifi for use by people not staying at the hotel, but just using the Bar / Cafe areas. Their number is +90 392 650 0400

Taners Terrace

Coming from Girne, towards Catalkoy you pass big Lemar first, on your right, then Al Shaheen also on right, keep going and on the left you will see a 'Marshalls" after about 1km from Al Shaheen, it is left about 50 mts after Marshalls and about a kilometer down a small road on the left.

We have bought a dongle and we just top up the sim when we come over, when we go out to Taners it means our teenagers can occupy themselves on their laptops while we get drunk (joking)
