Iis there a borderline for comedy? Are the recent obscene remarks made by Russell Brand and Jonathan Ross acceptable as humour? I don't think so. I think they should both be sacked.

no1doyen Just heard on the 6.00 BBC news that no action is to be taken over these 2 morons. Who accused the BBC of "Dumbing Down"? I wonder whether Wossie would have thought it so funny if Brand had broadcast that he had slept with one of his daughters? I'm not insinuating that he has, by the way!

No!Doyen, Tell his family about it! __it happens. The poor policeman who you rightly say appologised (and broke down in the witness box) What more could he do? Perhaps others faced with the responsibility, and the dilemma, would have acted differently. There but for the grace of God................ but there again. Theres always one.....................................after the event! wynyardman.

i'm sick of hearing about russell brand and jonathan ross on the news, its all over the bloomin place in the UK, as much as i love Russell Brand(the man is a legend) and hate Jonathan Ross they were wrong to say what they did but sacking them or sending them to jail(as mentioned in the mail) is a bit ott, what i fail to understand is that we have the likes of Pete Docherty and Amy Winehouse permantley off their faces on coke etc yet they never go to jail or seem to get any form of sentence yet someone says something wrong and all hell breaks lose, if you dont like what you hear switch off the radio, same as with the tele. I dont like casualty but u dont see me ringing up complaining about the content i just dont watch it - Simple huh, I'm sure many of you will disagree with me but thats just what makes me cross about england we are all to bloomin easily offended - chill out england and concentrate on the stuff that matters!

if you dont like what you hear switch off the radio..... Too late after they had already made the fould mouth remarks. A bit like shutting the stable door after the horse has bolted. Regarding Pete Docherty - he spent two weeks in prison a couple of years ago - fat lot of good that done him. Hit them in their pockets, sack the pair of them - now!

oooh 2 weeks gosh didnt that serve him well!!! 2 weeks out of all those times he got arrested for possession etc he's a bigger waste of space than anyone. i doubt very much it would hit them in their pockets especially jonathan ross i reckon he only does radio 2 for something to do in his spare time!

I wonder how many other great musicians in the 60's and 70's were permanently off their faces on the fashionable drug of the day? I don't think many of them were thrown in jail but then the media was a very different animal in those days. Nowadays, those old junkies are inducted into the rock n roll hall of fame! Pete Docherty and Amy Winehouse are both very talented. It's a shame they cannot overcome their demons.

Where I come from their actions could be construed as a breach of the peace and possible contravention of the telecommunications laws. It's creepy stalking for sure and both make a good job of looking like deviants.

Only times I have heard Brand I thought he was a loud mouthed, uneducated idiot and certainly could not understand his presence on BBC Radio. Ross I have seen and heard over many years and at first was not impressed with him. However the Boss liked him and I had to watch and listen to him in his various guises. In last few years I have got used to him and he can be a very funny man who has a lot of the B & C celebrity list beg to be on his shows. I have not heard the broadcast involved in this debacle but from what has been placed in the general news it must be extremely distressing for Mr Sachs and his family. Has Brand fallen on his sword because he was the instigator of this stupidity? From what I have heard from him in the past this seems likely. If not then I hope Ross has the decency to follow and pass on any payment he receives for signing off to Children in Need.

A radio presenter remarked that Jonathan Ross used to be known for his inability to pronounce the 'r' letter. Now he is famous for using the 'f' letter so much. A further example of falling standards in BBC output. I can't imagine how it was passed for broadcast. Not good enough. Brand at least went up a bit in my estimation with his apology, but think they are both not worth spending our licence money on. I do not agree that they are so talented as some tell us.

PP. You may be wrong about the publicity not doing them any harm. After making comments like listing her favourite sport as a pole dancer and "I like to party... " and as far as being part of a "burlesque dance group Satanic Sluts Extreme" - the newspapers will start having a field day soon.,....

Totally over the top hype - Funny how originally there was 1000 complaints made to the BBc the day after it broadcast the clip, but now nearly a week later the BBC recieved 4000 complaints in the last 24 hours. She's so upset that she's selling her story to the sun, (as quoted above) I would have thought the best course of action would be to let the whole thing die down. How many people who are outraged have also laughed at Chubby brown (not my cup of tea), Bernard Manning, the have i got news for you team, even Ricky Gervais making jokes of Stephen Hawkins american accent (even though he comes from Kent or somewhere close). How many of the outraged have recieved and forwarded bad taste, personel jokes/texts. People in glass houses shouldn't through stones. JB

Doyen, All the more reason for the publicity not doing her any harm. You've no idea the lengths some people go to with the media to get a plug. Many's the slap up meal and sunny holiday Mr and Mrs Pike have enjoyed on that basis over the years. Mind you, they get a bit annoyed when you don't kiss their ***** in your write-up. If you actually do one, that is.

It has been in the media, I have listened to qand read transcipts of the show and at least 1 criminal offence has been commited. The producer was or should have been aware of this and pulled the show, there fore he failed in his job, As for the other 2 well I would not pay them with washers but since they have broken the law and used bbc time and phones to do so then this could and should be viewed as gross misconduct.

Nige, did you read my comments in 32. What is humour? its not black an white, its not an excact science, theres no line in the sand. I did hear the show via the podcast, and I have to say I did laugh. When someone tells you something funny you do not analize it and do a risk assesment to make sure no creed, colour, age could be offended by the comment or your reaction. Thats the trouble these days everythings too pc. They upset some people, appologised, move on. Nobody died.

James it is nothing todo with being pc. 2.Section 43 Telecommunications Act 1984 (1) A person who - a) sending a message or other matter that is grossly offensive or of an indecent, obscene or menacing character, shall be guilty of an offence and liable on summary conviction to imprisonment for a term not exceeding six months or a fine not exceeding level 5 on the standard scale or both. I would say that any one phoning the grant parent of a girl sing and shouting they have had sex ( f####d ) the persons grandaughter is both grossly offensive & obscene . But if you think that is ok your morals are not like mine . Irest on this one the law is quite clear.

Complaints soar to more than 30,000 as BBC Trust holds emergency meeting Jonathan Ross's future hangs in the balance after Russell Brand quits over affair BBC faces civil war as Radio 2 controller threatens to quit if her staff are 'scapegoated' Stars line up to attack Brand and Ross's lewd 'prank' Radio 2 boss threatens to quit over obscene phone scandal as BBC teeters on the brink of civil war ............... All could face disciplinary action - especially programme producer Nic Philps, 25, who claimed Mr Sachs had agreed to the calls being broadcast as long as they were toned down. The station's head of compliance, Dave Barber, who is supposed to stop programmes breaching guidelines on taste and decency, is also in the frame. Lest we forget: Or what the BBC won't let you hear http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-1081663/Lest-forget-Or-BBC-wont-let-hear.html

"...especially programme producer Nic Philps, 25..." I think sending boys to do a man's (or woman's) job may be at the root of the problem. How much judgement and experience can you possibly have at 25, assuming he was at university or training between ages 18-22?
