pirate bay is a site that list 'torrents'. Do not really have the space or time to explain what these are, however to download such files you need a suitable program. Common torrent programms are, vuze, bittorrent, utorrent. There are many others. You should be aware that 'torrents' use a peer to peer system for distrubing files. What this means is that in a standard setup torrent software like those above will allow others to download files FROM you as well as allow you to download from others. It should also be pointed out that torrents by their very nature work on an 'open' system, that is anyone with sufficent resource and will, can see what torrent files are being both downloaded by a given IP address and what files are being offered by such an address. Owners of copyright can and do monitor such things to try and identify people who are distributing their content without their permission.

Downloading files via a site like piratebay would involve a 2 stage process. First you download a small torrent file directly from such a site. THis is a desciption of the actual file you want and where it can be found (on the machines of other people who are running a torrent program and are connected to internet). Your torrent program (like vuze or bittorrent) can then use this small file from a site like piratebay to download the actual file you want.

Thank you erolz and gooligan for your help. It all sounds a little bit confusing for me, so I think I will leave downloading it. I just thought I might be able to purchase the cd's already done. Thank you anyway

Speedster if you want to purchase them legaly you can direct from rosetta stone webiste I believe. If you want to just get the disks here without bothering about their 'copyright' status I would try asking in the internet cafes. I am sure one of them will have such content availble for purchase on DVD disk.

Speedster; try http://www.rosettastone.co.uk/offer/p16e?pc=p16e&cid=se-ggem1a&rd=0# Currently you can buy the original set for level-1 at 139 UK pounds. You can do so online and have it sent to an address in UK. Getting it down to Cyprus at this time of the year should not be a problem. Once you have had enough and you think you have learned Turkish - you can then contact me for some serious learning on: turkishlessons1to1@yahoo.com

gooligan it is not correct to say there is no copyright law here, as I understand it. What there is is no enforcment and that is principaly because copyright holders do not choose to seek enforcment via the courts because a) TRNC is not recognised and b) the place is very small. There is no pro active enforcment by the 'state' either. However a company like Sony , to pick just one, could come here and could bring a prosecution under TRNC law against a DVD shop and its quite likely they would win such a case. They, companies like Sony, just choose not to.
