PICTURES.jpg: Much faster email up- and downloading

Many people send (via email) pictures straight from their camera. The formats are usually Raw or Tiff (mainly used by professionals) and jpg/JPEG.

If such a picture.jpg is not meant for print or professional manipulation it is advisable to downgrade the quality and weight (strip all unnecessary, hidden information) of the picture.

Why? Because such pictures will send and download much faster via email (especially interesting when you use a dongle!).

How to do it?

1 : Downgrade the quality of the picture.jpg: there are many free software programmes (PC, Mac and Linux) downloadable from the Internet. Bring back the quality from 100% to about 80% (you'll hardly see the difference on screen).

2 : Strip all unnecessary, hidden information: download the free software for PC here:

dc i think people with yahoo emails are able to shrink and alter quality in email prog which is useful

Here are two examples that may convince you (if you use a web based or disk based email programme that doesn't have the facility to manipulate/downgrade pictures).



First a picture.jpg uploaded straight from my camera:

And now the same picture.jpg (quality 82% from the original, seize now 480*640 pixels and stripped with ImageOptim.app for Macintosh):
