Someone in the early hours stole 4 out of 5 dustbin lids from the end of the street! WHY!!! The dustbins had not been emptied or I guess they would have taken them as well. Chris

Dustbin lids make the perfect moulds for concrete bases for sun umbrellas - I'm guessing this is the reason they've been 'lifted'!

A dustman is going along a street picking up the wheelie bins and emptying them into his dustcart lorry. He gets to one house where the bin hasn't been left out so he has a quick look for it, goes round the back but still can't see it so he knocks on the door. There's no answer so he knocks again. Eventually a Japanese bloke answers..."Harro", says the chappy. "Alright mate, where's ya bin?" asks the dustman. "I bin on toilet" replies the Japanese bloke, looking perplexed. Realising the Japanese fellow has misunderstood, the binman smiles and says "No mate, where's ya dust bin?" "I dust bin on toilet I told you" says the Japanese man. "Mate" says the dustman... "you're misunderstanding me....Where's your wheelie bin?" "OK, OK", says the Japanese bloke, "I wheelie bin having a w....!" Apologies guys if this offends but it did me me laugh! Chris

Our bin collections (when they actually occur) are in the early hours of the morning at the end of the route where the dustcart about turns so I put the bins out late, the evening before. So far 3 new bins stolen and one smashed beyond use. The tell tale tyre marks indicate done by the dustcart. I said that I would carry out an all night covert operation for as long as it takes until I catch the culprit. The Wildebeest ( bless her) says that I should hide in the bin with the lid down having taken several valium. What a "crushing" remark. I am intelligent enough to appreciate that I should make 2 small spy holes in the bin first, leave the valium at home, and take with me in the bin bottles of EFES so that when consumed I will have the courage to kick the crap out of the culprit and can leave the empties in the bin and not have to use our reserve dustbin !

Karsiyaka is a nicking nightmare - I assume that this is down to the number of empty houses there but I really don't know. I keep an eye on a couple of holiday houses belonging to friends and I am well aware that you can't leave anything at all outside. My experience is that the electricity fuses have been stolen (twice) from locked boxes, a pool cover has vanished, potted plants and wheelie bins ditto. The last straw was last week when one of the a/c compressor units had been opened up and parts stolen from that.
